Anyone care to recommend an insurance company for Mini's?

I'm going to be insuring an '86 Mayfair which is my 2005/6/7/8 (lol) project car for full restoration and lovelyness.

I have come from the modified car scene (not chav) - I owned a track Clio Cup 172 and so am quite ued to declaring mods etc, but is this the done thing with the plethora of mini parts available?

For instance - cosmetics like chrome arches and chrome mirrors - really? does it matter that much?

I'll be insuring the Mini (yet to be named) TPFT also.

Ahhh eeek also, had a few minor alterations with the LAW in he past and although points mean prizes - in this case it doesn't and so i've got a couple of SP30's but nothing drastic.

Any help deeply appreciated

Si.

If your taking it SORN whilst re-building it or something Mini World Insurance (Highway Insurance Company) do a special insurance for projects but as long as the whole car is in a garage. If not they are generally the cheapest mini insurance anyway since they specialise in mini's!!! 08451 258 258 They also inculde non-competetive track day cover standard and cosmetic mods upto £1500 will not increase the premium.

Which brings me on to your next question, all mods should be declared, I have always declared anything I do, including if its simply changing over the seats to metros ones, or something similar.

Other companies to look at would be Graham Sykes, Footman James, Adrian Flux, since these are more specialist companies and so (dependant on your age) will be able to insure you on classic car insurance or something similar.

Thanks mate. I've always been under the impression everything should be declared so never had any problems there. My last car was insured with Highway and to be honest I'd rather feed myself to piranhas than give Highway any of my money - ever - ever again. Quite possibly the most useless insurance company on the planet from my experience!

The project is very much road legal and it will be a weekend project with Mon-Fri (when its in one piece) commuting!

I'll give fluxxy a call today - I think I can bung it on a classic car policy. I'm 22 incidentally so now am over the 18-21 gap. Hurrah. Oh dear - roll on 30!

im with hic on my 1293 mini for 340 fully comp
im 22 with 3 years no claims

i used them for a 2 litre nova and they were only 600 fully comp when i was 21

loads better than adrian flux

they also let you drive other cars if your fully comp

but you must have owners permission and the other car must be insured

May I ask what problems you had with HIC, since one of my policies is up for renewal in June and I'm looking around!!

If your looking for classic insurance you may find that some companies require you to be over 25!! But I think there are one or two knocking around that give classic policies to over 21s.

HIC offered me a classic policy on my Mini, and I am only 19, with 1 claim! I was quoted £1000 for a 998cc from most places, but they offered this classic policy for £650. Also, I asked them about the flip-front I am fitting, and they didnt care! Its a "cosmetic modification".I have heard great things bout them from mates.

Well right here's the current status:

Kwik Fit: £750
Fluxxy: £734
HIC: £782

Just a note, I had a problem with Highway, not HIC (Herts Insurance Consultants). Basically they were rubbish at handling my claim, never sent me paperwork, never bothered to call me back and just generally sucked ass. LOL.

The hunt continues - Liverpool & Victoria next. I like HIC's policy on mods which is the best so far even though its not the cheapest.

Erm, not too sure who MiniWorld insurance is with now!! Is it HIC or Highway, I thought they were the same company! I'm pretty sure I'm with Highway although I got my insurance through MiniWorld, am rather confused now!
