Yeah, he had the fecking engine out, took the head off and still couldn't see anything wrong. He took the clutch housing off to find a pool of oil in the bottom of it and when he took the clutch plate off there were 2 bolts hanging out of the block that were hitting it! Knackered the bloody clutch plate so need a new one fitted!

Bloody typical! Have no idea how much it's gonna cost but I'm gonna be broke! :D

Lets hope that it was really this! and the rattle is gone! :D

The garage should find out where the oil has come from, and why the two bolts were hanging out the block, and then if the garage were the ones who rebuilt the engine then you shouldn't pay a penny!

Yeah I know but They didn't have the clutch off this time, just did the head! He'd better do me a bloody deal though or he'll not have any further business!! :D

Am going to buy the Vizard books when I get back and build my next engine myself! It's the only part of the car that I haven't done taken apart! That and I need to learn to weld! :D

I'm about 3 months ahead of where you are Jonsey! I kept getting sick of labour charges and not really knowing what was going on, so I'm about to strip down and rebuild my first engine, and also buying a MIG welding in the next couple of days!

That seems quite alot for a cam? What work has the garage done on this before, did he just replace the cylinder head gasket? I'd try and see the old camshaft before replacing it, just to make sure!

It was the price for a KENT 276 Cam with followers, valve stem seals and springs! Decided to just go for the cam and followers as I've already got double springs and the price is £100.20! Delivery tomorrow direct to the garage!

I will not be doing this again! I now have £30 to last me a week and I still have to pay the garage bill! :D

Oh and yeah, it just went in for a head gasket! Now it's had a new clutch, all the bloody gaskets and the cam turns up tomorrow!

well the latest is that the Engine is F**ked completely. The crank is scored and pitted, the cam lobes are shot and the followers are knackered! Doesn't look like it's going anywhere! :D :D

Now have to find another engine to fit for the trip or put my 998 back into it! I don't Bloody believe it!

on the up side, no longer have to buy a clutch, camshaft or followers!

do you have the same noise when the rocker cover is off? if so the next thing to check is the psuh rods themselfs, making sure non of them are bent.

Did the noise only start after the head gasket was changed?

Am fitting a spare 1275 MG engine that some of my club members (the pikeys) are lending me! they say it was a good engine and they took it out of a metro a couple of months back! Best bet at the mo as I can't get a new short engine in time to rebuild mine!

When I get back will buy a new short engine and rebuild the bloody thing! my block and pistons are fine just needs a new crank, cam and followers! will probably sell it to help get the new engine!
