managed a quick picture late last night after fitting a moto lita jc sig wheel to my 1999 mpi.

nothing properly tightened up, but have an issue - wheel seems to be way too close to stalks - knuckles brush against them when turning... Is this just a 'feature'??

confused (again).

next day:

have tightened it all up now, and low and behold, haven't got it quite straight, so need to remove boss to re-align - had a quick go at getting it off, but seems stuck fast - what's the preferred method of persuasion??

It's not a feature, that's just what happens when you fit non standard parts!

To get it off either use a hub puller (a three legged puller will be needed for an aftermarket wheel as they don't have the threaded holes for the special tool) or thump the back of it with a soft faced (copper, brass, leather etc) mallet. However you decide to remove it it is always a good idea to leave the nut on the end of the shaft (not tightened up obviously) by a couple of turns to catch it when it comes away. They tend to release with some force and many people have broken their own noses with a steering wheel....

rubber hammer replaced a hub puller - dozen or so taps and it came off - put new hub on, and sorts the clearance issue no worries. think might order the steering column drop bracket now, as it does poke a bit skywards ;-)
visa card had been charged however - hoping this will be rectified when return the shorter hub...

Errrrrrrrr, are you not sposed to use a DISHED wheel? Like the 1 that came off? I got a deep-dish mountney wheel and am swapping an MG boss for a mini boss. The wheel cost me a quid at the tip

barnett - paid 99 for wheel and 75 for boss - billet centre cap was 59...

drop bracket which i intend to purchase (just checking how far it actually drops the column) is 17 + vat.

not a cheap upgrade all in all, but completely changes the feel of the interior imho - really did not like the rover airbag wheel.

washing the car thursday after work - will get some decent pics...

mattvallins - the jc sig wheel is semi dished - really wanted the sig model, so no choice...

bungle - you should see what having the wheel on the left does to pedal space - heater is even more intrusive on this side, and the pedals are further off centre - makes shoe choice limiting.

Gareth, you mean a column drop (extender that runs between the bottom of the dash and the column)? I have a spare here somewhere you can have for a coiuple of quid if you want?? 20quid seems a bit steep!

matt - there are 2 different types - one for the standard coloumn, and one for airbagged columns - which do you have ??? the airbag one is a lot more expensive for some reason... (numbers produced i'd imagine, as negates airbag use)
