Hi all,
Does anyone drive around with one of the square number plates on the bonnet? Has it failed an MOT with one? Have you been pulled by the police for it? And could I see some pics plaese?

Cheers

belongs as if it is the right size and has the correct spacing and is clearly visable you should have no problems thats what i've been told previously(by the old bill for having a small plate on a bike!)

All mechanically propelled vehicles used on public roads except electrically assisted pedal cycles, vehicles belonging to the Crown or vehicles appropriated for use by Naval, Military or Air Force purposes require registration marks.

The regulations state 2 plates are to be displayed horizontally - one at the front and one at the rear on all vehicles registered after 1.10.38. There are of course exceptions to this rule -

agricultural vehicles require one on rear or on both sides
bicycle or invalid carriage - rear only

On vehicles registered after 1.1.73 (L suffix) the plates shall be of reflective material i.e. white background with black figures on the front and yellow background with black figures on the rear.

Vehicles first used on or after 1st September 2001 are governed by the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001
Any offences are committed by the driver or if not being driven, the keeper of the vehicle.

The main offences are

Failing to fit - (defence: Unregistered and only being driven for purpose of being registered or being MOTd prior to registration).

Obscured or allowing to be undistinguishable (defence: All reasonable steps were taken to prevent obscuring)

Forge or fraudulently use or fraudulently lend or allow to be used.

Fail to comply with size, shape and character of registration mark. This offence is to be used to prosecute for italic plates.
During the hours of darkness the rear plate must be lit so that it is visible from distance of 18 metres (59 feet).

General size guidelines

Height of figures Width of figure Upper/lower margin Side margins Space between letters Space between numbers
3 1/8" 2 1/4" 7/16" 7/16" 7/16" 7/16"
3 1/2" 2 1/2" 1/2" 1" 1/2" 1/2"

Cheers

I'm not sure if it's the number plate that I'd be most worried getting pulled over about on this one :withstupid:
