Crank mods are again to help with higher revs. If you've got the engine in bits it's certainly worth having the journals measured and reground if needed, which will almost certainly be the case if you're any kind of perfectionist.

Getting it balanced will isn't essential but it's ripe for a ship 'n penny of tar analogy. Use new big end nuts 'n bolts 'n consider fitting a centre main strap.

the engine aint in pieces but i plan to rebuild the engine grom bottom up so the crank will be out!!

i think i might get it done then just to settle my mind will anyone be able to do it or will i be better off sending it away to a specialist that does it everyday sort of thing

cheers

Any engine shop should be up to checking and grinding a crank. There are a few possible issues, like rolled radius fillets, you might want to make sure they are familiar with. Similarly, machinig a bearing cap for a strap should be straight forward, but someone familiar with A Series tuning might do the job quicker and therefore cheaper.

by the way, I've got a couple of spare sets of brand new Minispares Mega 73.5mm pistons, boxed, complete with pins and rings. A set's yours for £160 plus postage if you want them...

Still got these if you've changed your mind and want to build a proper motor :)

I had this problem, and went for 1293 due to being a little bit stronger and a wider variety of +20 thou pistons being available for the low compression I wanted.

Still managed to build a 145 bhp 1293 though :) (4 and a half grand later that is...)

Im beginning to think a 1310 is the way to go as pistons are cheaper and i want to do a quality build and by dropping back to 1310 will mean i can spend the cash on other parts of the build.

What are the potential drawbacks as this will be run with a morspeed ph3 cam and ported head with pressed steel rockers.

Comments please :D

What have you done to it to make that sort of power?? Full on miglia spec by the sound of it.

bump!!

1310 = sacrificing capacity for quality build

OR

1330 = sacrificing small bit of quality for capacity??

the reason i ask is that these pistons are half the price of +60's (but they are out of stock atm ;) )

help please!

for the price of those boo i could go 1330 :s

now im really confused about what to do, are the 21251's going to fail easily? the car is a weekend toy, driven hard but not abused and am trying to build a new engine on a budget but don't want to use carp parts so was trying to go smaller bore and better quality.

crikey this is complicated!!
