any tips on who to use to send blocks off for an exchange for example.

Normally I would expect the person you are doing the exchange with to sort out the collection/delivery as they will almost certainly have a preferred courier or even a contract...

I sent a short engine to someone who won it on ebay. I used Nightfreight because I knew they did heavy items, it weighed exactly 50kg when all packed and cost £27 for a 3 day service.

you know you say "short engine", does this mean just the block with pistons, crank, con rods etc. with no box and head ???
