my girlfriend (advantage_stacey) was driving her mini the other day, and the diff pin broke:( it snapped and went straight through the sump so all her oil got dumped all over the road and now she cant drive her mini for a little while so it can get fixed. she's not pleased having just spend a lot of money totally overhauling the front suspension ;) :P
So. let this be a lesson to you all, take it easy on a standard diff pin or this might happen to you... (did i mention its only done about 56k miles)

Not nice, the worst bit is knowing that you've got to take the engine out to fix it.
I did the same once and spat several teeth from the diff thru the casing, lots of oil on a hot exhaust and lots of smoke and it threw a drive shaft out at the same time.

the oil was burning on the exhaust, the back of her car had a coating of oil all over it, i feel sorry for the poor bugger who was behind her when it happened, their car probably got covered in oil!

Ouch, that's a mess....

I'll posting up another gorey gearbox related picture in a few minutes...

On the subject of xpin diffs, I found out yesterday that TranX no longer manufacture Mini Gearkits, drops or xpin diffs, which is a dire shame. They were seriously solid bits of kit, I've had one for two years with no issues. They would have been my preferred supplier for gears.

Omg, have they said why they're not manufacturing them anymore?

Not not had a response to my reply as yet, but is a shame as their unit is only 10 miles from me so would have been ideal...

Have enquired as to who they think are 'good' alternate suppliers..
