From looking at my mates R5 im sure the turbos on them are just straight T2's. Boost from the word go is impossible really, but what do you intend to run boost wise?

If your not heading for over 1Bar then a Smaller turbo than a T25 will spool better. You could run a slightly smaller exhaust system and run an external wastegate to improve top end flow and low end torque. also sounds like a f'ing jet on full boost!

If you have however made your mind up and T25 is the way to go. then you might want to keep an eye out for a T25g from a nissan 180sx. Imports only but they came with bearing rather than journal so spools faster. It has a T2 exhaust housing but with Larger compressor. CApable of running 1Bar on a 2.0 litre so will easily suffice on a mini.

They can be had for as little as £150, thats what mine sold for. I know where there is another too.

I don't mean to rob this thread but does anybody know of any turbo's of about T3 size with out the internal waste gate. Finding one for a 400+bhp motor is easy but for a 250bhp its not. I was thinking of fitting an Audi TT 225 turbo to my 16v but I really want a turbo with all the best trimmings. Ball bearings, external waste gate etc. Any help would be great

have you thought about using the gt2860 or the gt2871r? I know theyre both Internally gated but nothing a welder cant handle

out of interest, any reason for you wanting to run an external gate?

Early SAAB 900 Turbo's ran an external wastegate on the exhaust manifold.

If you check through ebay they also sell blanking plates for T3's

Any pics of your build?

I wouldn't even consider the T series if your having to go to the efforts of custom manifold etc..its old technology compared the the newer GT series.

The main reason I want an external wastegate is because while spending a buck on an Audi RS2 lump im tuning, many people suggested using them because in general the turbo's are more efficient and tend to spool up quicker. Thats really why I don't want to use a T2 or T3. They are just so old hat. A T2 is great for initial spool up but will start too fall short in power compared to a T3. Then on the other hand the T3 is great for top wack power but fairly laggy. Modern turbo's aren't like that now. Not only that but I don't really want to run around at 25 odd psi wondering when the things going to melt. I want a turbo built for the job to begin with.

As for the gt2860 and gt2871r, they are just numbers to me lol It took me ages to find the one for my audi block and I know that thats a Holset hx50 and the one on my volvo T5 motot is a Garret 19t compared to the usual 16t lol

As for the pictures, the block and head will be arriving in my hands shortly from Morspeed hopefully so expect a few on my project page then lol.

Thanks for the pointer though guys

I must say ive never been able to complain about any of his work and to me thats more important than receiving things the next day faulty or wrong. He can be a bit of a knightmare to get hold of some times but he usually gets back hold of you. I did say to him take as long as he wants and given the ammount of work being carried out to the block alone, i wasn't expecting it in record time. One thing I am sure though, is that when I turn the key for the first time, I know there's nothing wrong with the hardware under the bonnet
