See if you can get your hands on a copy of David Vizard's 'How to Modify Your Mini', it has reasonably detailed instructions with some helpful pics.

Good luck

Split 45s ! That must be some juice hungry engine you're planning

Manifolds should be easy enough although I'm sure Maniflow produce somthing suitable - at the end of the day its only two tubes with flanges on each end!

Exactly, which is why I thought I'd build my own, no need to pay Maniflow prices for basically two steel tubes with flanges on the end...

Yes I suspect I'll be doing my bit for a fuel shortage, but with a hopeful red line of 8.5-9k going to need something which can shovel the fuel in by the bucket load... and I don't do injection...

You should speak to Nick Swift at swiftune, he recons that a single 48 is better than split 45's and it probably a damm site cheaper...

pardon me for thinking

but surely, you are using one side of each carb? so is it not better to use both sides of one bigger carb?

and my god what are you doing to want that kind of set up!?

The other thought was to run an IDA, but that sticking out the top of my 'supposedly' stock looking van may have been a bt of a giveaway...

Technically there's little difference over running just a single 45, but it's the air flow which is changed, basically the venturi of the carb lines up directly with the port on the head, and does not have the little 'kink' in the inlet manifold... also means you can run a shorter inlet manifold therefore not requiring such a deep box.

IIRC they originally came about from works set ups as they weren't allowed to use twin choke carbs but at the time the Webers were their weapon of choice - answer convert the Webers to single choke and use two!

The straight line flow is a marginal improvement over a std Weber but wether it is enough to warrant the work and cost is a different matter.

Split 45's are proper thirsty!!

The length of the inlet manifold should be selected for top end or bottom end power/torque or a mixture/compromise for both.
Drag strip or road use?
