So a canoe is a surf board with a seat and sides, and a kayak is a surf board with sides and a top...

Sounds like your living the life down there Teapot! Just a little bit jealous! I've been kayaking once or twice, and been out in a canoe, much preffered kayaking and really wouldn't mind taking it up as a hobby!

ive been canoeing - y'know the fibreglass ones - but that was ages ago, wouldnt know where to look around here to do it again.

but i still reckon a canoe is just a posh kayak :mrcool:

There used to be a cracking place where I used to go near Barnesly called Pugney's, it was just a big old lake and they hired out canoes, Canadian canoes, kayaks, windsurfing, all that cobblers.

Maybe there's a Pugneys near you!

Well done Teapots

Ive done this a couple of times for school trips and stuff when I was younger. I remember a couple of times I had to get rescued as I was either going around in circles ( :D ) or drifting away from the group!!! I was young though, would quite like to have another go, just to see if Im still as rubbish :PMy cousin teaches sailing (cant remember where, in water obviously :dozing: ) and does Kayaking too! She spends most her time in water!

I really want to start diving, that really takes my interest! And I love being in water, I think im a fish really

Diving IMHO is something else. It takes commitment and it seems to me you're soooooo close to danger all the time. We have a friend who got her PADI by getting up at unearthly hours in WINTER on SUNDAYS and travelling MILES to the south coast to spends AGES in FREEZING DARK water. I might think about it if I lived in the Bahamas, I wish.

People do more reckless things everyday on the roads without running the risk of getting slated in the national press.

If you're off to Jockland at this time of year, especially to splash about a loch or too you'd best invest in an allover midgie net! Mind you, if you're driving up from Cambs in a Mini with 2 boats on the roof it'll take you most of your holiday just to get there and back

All part of then fun 'n it's nice to paddle your own canoe but, have you looked into hiring one while you're up there? Once you subtract the savings in fuel it might not cost any more.

All watersports are much more fun in the warm. Think about Scuba next time you book yourself a beach holiday Raz. It's usually cheaper to learn abroad, though registering with Padi 'n having a few lessons in the UK means you get more time swimming with the fishes rather than splashing around in a swimming pool n watching training videos.

You're full of the spirit of adventure aren't you? :D

The Kayaks we have weigh less together than one average sized person! They're pretty streamlined and certainly won't make that much difference to the fuel economy of a 1968 Mini Traveller- hardly designed like a F1 car were they?!...... We have family in Bolton, so we're planning on stopping over night on the way up, plus we've got a full fortnight up there, I'm hoping an 8 hour drive won't turn into a two week marathon
