josh, May be the poor mini's front end is just to far gone, and so the only way of bringing it back is a trailer or a trike ?

hmm trike... that could be fun...

Easiest way has to be a fiberglass tub. Probably not cheapest but lightest. Try absmotorsport.

Also if you're young 'un like me you need to watch what weight it is, not sure about the real rules though.

Well I said it's not the cheapest but someone must be buying them or they wouldn't bother making them.

If I were to build one - and I have a dead shell, so once the van is finished, its quite likely - I wouldnt use the minis subframe. Its a lot of weight for very little benefit. I would ditch it in favour of some box section to reinforce the floor and a couple of Indespension type trailer units with unbraked hubs. The weight saving would be significant.
The only potential drawback is I dont know what pcd the hubs are, so dont know if mini wheels would bolt straight onto them.

As far as the towing weight is concerned I have done some research into this due to the dinghy sailing I do and so the boats I tow. Without doing any additional tests (if you passed your test before 1997 the rules allow you to tow more I believe), once passing your driving licence you are allowed to tow the following:-

An unbraked trailer up to a maximum weight of 750Kg or upto half the kirb weight of the veihicle ( which ever is less) Total weight of vehicle and trailor to be less than 4.25 tonnes

A braked trailer weighing upto the kirb weight of the veihicle may be towed providing the total weight of trailor and vehicle does not exceed 3.5 tonnes

The Kirb weight of the vehicle is not its actuall weight it is a figure set by the manufacture and is normally lighter than its actuall weight

Secondly everything you put into the towing vehicle (exculding petrol and the driver) must be taken off the kirb weight before you half it.

So lets say a minis kirb weight is 500kg (this is an educated guess if someone knows the actual value?)

So with an empty car you can tow an unbraked trailer upto a weight of 250kg

Now you pick up 3 mates as say 75kg each now the weight you must half is 275Kg. Allowing you to tow an unbraked trailer upto a weight of 135.7Kg

Hope that helps and I await the many people telling me what ive got wrong :)
