techno-steve, what are you confused about? lol, I know its a whole minefield of what appear contradicting things.
I think to sum up. If you passed your test after 1997 and you might want to tow a heavy trailer (well heavy in mini terms) with people in your car I would seriously consider making it braked
I tow my boat quite allot with my mini and I would guess that weights about 150kg including the weight of the trailer. The main issue I have isn't pulling it, its stopping. My mini's wheels will just lock up ( especially in the wet) and you don't stop very quickly ( and I do pump the brakes, I don't just slide down the road). So if I was going to make my own trailer unless it adds allot of extra weight I would make it braked.
I would agree with what had been said about not using a mini rear sub frame. Using indispenion units with brakes would be the way I would go as they will be lighter. You could also possibly put a spare wheel where the sub frame was making your trailer a little bigger.

I still disagree chopping a mini up.
Better than seeing it rot away at a scrap yard.
I wonder what the cost of new panels would be to make a trailer. Plus some sheet steel/fibreglass for the floor, front panel or cover...

I Would Just Go To Waste And No One Would Get Any Pleasure Out Of It, Also Half Of It Would Be On The Road
