Bought a mini sidewalk a few months ago and since we have got it its never run right.
we have had it diagnostic tested all clear changed lamba sencer for a brand new one, changed injection unit and still the same fault
which is blowing black smoke out of the exhaust, eats a bit of fuel, and doesnt idle right it sounds as though it wants to cut out.
could this be the head gasket??? getting it compressiong tested tomorow
any help on this would be grateful as my wife is moaning at me lol
cheers paul

Try setting the valve clearances (tappets), because that sometimes helps.

You'll find them under your rocker cover and you'll need a Haynes Mini manual.
This will also help too: -
You can usually pick it up cheap on e-Bay or from Amazon: -
http://www.amazon.co...2065884-7642319
Well it taught me how to set my tappets and ignore the up to 1995 tag as much of it applies to all Minis even those made after 1995.

I am experiencing a similar problem as described, but mine only arose after I replaced my lambda sensor (Because of a MOT failure based on emissions), it ran fine before, any suggestions on how to fix my poorly car would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers.

Did you fit a genuine OEM Bosch replacement or a universal jobbie?

well just before i went on my hols the ecu came back and it was faulty, £150 the have ecu tested and fixed or should i say replaced with all the correct codes on to another ecu, just need to clean the lamba sensor as it is still puffing a little black smoke out, but it will idle which was one of my problems
