Well...........................FAILED!!

Got off quite lightly really..

- Both front cv gaitors splir.
- Horn stuck on and wouldn't turn off!!!
- Handbrake crap!

Very happy with that indeed.

Just ordered a pair of handbrake cables, the rear brakes were ok so I assume its the cable stretching.

2hrs work and the re-test is ok for Saturday!!

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Not bad at all. How long has he been standing? Horn might be the hardest but hey, prob just a sticky switch, bit of a spray might cure that one. Might be worth whipping the drums off and do an old school emery cloth dance round them. we found it worked on our Maverick, brakes were good on the rollers, but the handbrake was poor. I suppose the time consuming bit will be the gaiters.

Good luck.

I think I've got a brand new set of drums under the bench, I think the cable is stretching, I'll replace the lot anyway just to be sure.

Yeah, the cvs will the the pain, still I'm happy with the result.

Come on Shifty, we are all on our toes waiting for the test result. If Poo makes it to MITP, i may just have to go myself to see him. Looks like Yoda will be there with my son on Saturday too, so if you get any space on the stand, i am sure he would love to join you.

I'm sure I'll be able to get him on the stand!!

Well not updated this for a while but I have been busy!!

Getting the MOT was an utter nightmare!!

I got him ready for a re-test and then when I phoned up the test station for a re-test it transpired that the guy had been called away and wouldn't be back till Monday---------------DOH!!

This was Friday and I wanted to go to MITP on Saturday!! I took a gamble and booked him into another test station, luckily he passed.....PHEW!!

Unfortunately on the way home this happenend..

Posted Image

Closely followed by this..

Posted Image

Turned out the rotor and the dizzy cap had both failed!! Luckily I had spares at home and we got him running again.

We made MITP with no drama..

Posted Image

He attracted a load of attention and had his picture taken many many times!!

So what now?

Problem is that I know he's bodged through the ticket(I did it!!) and I'm not happy driving him like that, I must be getting old or something, a few years ago that wouldn't have bothered me.

Thats spoiling him for me, the only answer is a proper repair, floors/heelboard etc. I've just put in a big minispares order and will be cutting him up very soon indeed!

I was gonna leave him as a rat but I don't think I can do it, so its also gonna be wings/front panel/ repaint as well!! The deadline for this will be MITP next year!!

Here we go again!!

I too am going to be following this with Interest. I have now met Poo and now i want one. I can see the appeal in keeping Poo as a rat, but i agree, some work needs doing to keep him alive. The rat look can be mostly kept Shifty, and i know you can keep the patina of the paint work intact in most place as the majority of work needed is below the sill seam. I look forward to meeting up again next year and hopefully i will have Yoda GT II, ready by then. Michael definitely want to be there too, so you gotta make it!

Shame about your return trip, Maybe Poo was lonely and wanted to meet up with a nice shiny sexy yellow van, If you think about it when Poo was a nipper, those AA vehicles were all Mini's and Motorbikes and sidecars, but i am sure you wont remember those!

Thats the start of the panels, I don't think I can let him keep looking so scruffy so the next lot is for wings/scuttle etc.

In the interest of reliabillity I will be removing the hydro, its getting tired and once its all been disturbed I don't see it working again!!

I've got a set of 7.5" brakes under the bench, will stick on some spaced drums as well. That ought to do it!!
