Hiya
i so want to get another mini after years of being without one but have to have an automatic(auto licence only:( )
our main car is a fleet car but my partners willing to put her car up as a deposit we were going to do it but we think were being ripped off?

We were looking at this car
http://www.croftgara...i...5145&popup=

thing is they want £2500 for that is it worth it?

been looking at other prices and it seems not too bad but they have only offered £1500 for our car which is five years newer:(

our car is a peugeot 206 1.4 glx 2000 on a W plate, its done 59000 has 11 months mot and 6 months tax and is spot on!

checking up on prices they go for at least £2000 private sales upto £2700 and about £2500-£3000 trade.

My partner was gunna do it but ive said now nomatter how much i want a mini theres no way im gunna let a dealers rip us off that much.

i know deep down if we did the deal he would then sell ours for £2500 minimum and make £1000 on the deal:(

we aint got the money to go private we were gunna put the remiander on plastic but methinks though they wont do owt unless theres owt in it for them and though minis are probably worth more than the pug it should be our pug plus £500 max!

what does anybody else think?

we could sell the pug then sit on the cash till the right mini comes along but we want to get rid of pug n drive away in mini the same day we dont want all the messing around selling one then looking for another.

That minis been there a while you think theyde want to do a deal the pug would be easier to sell for a mainstream garage, anyhooz any thoughts and advise would be appreciated;)

Jodie :(

dont know really, the Mini looks in a nice condition but it is an auto. I would say the price is a bit steep. I would say keep looking around, and never buy the first car you see. I spent 6 months looking for my mini, when i saw it i knew the price was right and bought it. :(

I have no idea what you pug is worth, sorry.

That's how the dealer makes his money. That's why he is called a "dealer". Your always better off selling your car on your own.

yep try and sell your car first privately you'll get more

its not a bad price if its relitively rust free and it looks to be pretty much original but maybe a bit overpriced for an auto

No bodies ripping anybody off! You asked them for a deal and they offered you one, if you don't want to do it walk away.

But, as you say, you want a instant change of car with no hassle.

Not going through the grief of selling one car then waiting to buy another is what the £500 difference in your private sale valuation and the trade in price is all about. You are paying for the ease of the deal.

If you don't want to do it, don't. Sell your car for £2000, hope that you'll find a suitable mini and go buy it cash. Just be prepared to advertise your Pug, put up with idiot potental buyers, get haggled down, look at some right sheds of minis advertised and put up with idiot potental sellers.

It annoys me that anybody who's trying to make a living selling motors is automatically trying to rip you off. There are rouges about but Parkers guide lists the TRADE price on your car as around £1500, so it doesn't sound like this guys too far from the mark does it?

Theres plenty of them about, i promise you that. Ive had about 6 of them come look at my mini!! Does my head in when they start talking complete bolos. I told one to go, i was fed up with the general $**te he was talking. Claimed the car was full of filler, until i go the magnet on the car. Told me the welding wasnt neat, i know that, i didnt do the welding but its solid and not a huge mess. Complete waste of my time. Told me he was looking for an original shell, not rot or replacement panels for under £2k, get real!! Even the later 2000/2001 minis are starting to need welding, get rite up me chuffer.

I'd say 2500 was too much for a Sprite Auto. My City Auto with about 48000 on the clock was 2k with brand new 12" minilites and tyres and a new grille and 8 months left on the MOT. Plus there's basically no rust on it apart from a bit underneath the bumpers. Shop around and be very careful buying from a non-Mini specialist dealer.
Oh right nvm mines 3 years older and a 998.

to be honest, £1500 sounds about right for an 8 year old 206, they go for about that in the auctions, so for a dealer part-ex which might just get sent off to auction anyway, then i'd say it sounds about right.

BUT...

Try selling it private and advertise it as an ideal first car etc etc, you should get more for it. If you're really stuck, try Ebay?

Yes, that's how dealers make their money! Sell the 206 privately. It might be a little bit more hassle, but I'd say it's worth it for an extra £1000 in your pocket.

Also I'd keep looking around for Minis, you should be able to find one for a better price than that. Again, if you buy privately rather than going to a dealer you can get a much better deal.

Thanx guyz
i know that how dealers make money but i think he s takin the mick a bit:(
Id expect him to make a bit of money but just thought his deal was a bit too stingy :D We might still go see it and see if we can negotiate a bit afterall money talks;)

ive looked around and to be honest if its as good as it seems for a dealer £2500 aint too bad,im geussing in the private market it would be £2000-£2300ish the car was originally up for £3000 and i think that was too much:( But £2500 seems no too bad.

I saw jimmys car it come from PL minis didnt it?
I liked that but my other half wants as late a mini as we can get so short of getting a japan import i think they didnt make the uk autos much past an N Plate did they? I think you got a great little car for the money jimmy ;)

We have seen another sprite same year colour etc but private sale for just £1500 but the mot runs out in september and it could end up costing the difference if it fails on anything big :dozing:

So i guess we will go n see that mini and see if its ok if we can get a better deal with the garage?

Thanks for all the advise

And pie seems like you have a well sorted mini worth the money but were after a late one thats pretty standard, but thanks anyhooz for letting me know about it :o

Or it could end up passing and saving you £1000. You could say to the seller you'd be prepared to pay £1600 for it if he put another years MOT on it first?
