Children have fantastic hearing, I remember reading how quickly sensitivity drops off with age but I can't remember how much now

I may not be 2, but I can recognise a Mini no problem. Early Fiestas / small bore Escorts too (no other cars have tappets that rattly!)

Maybe if you train him up on engine sounds he'll be famous for it one day =]

My eldest has just turned 3 and is just the same, apart from my missus and I have conditioned him to call them 'BMW Mini's'. But he gets really excited when he see's any other mini on the road. It's damned distracting when we're driving along and he suddenly spies a Mini in a car park or wherever and scream's "Daddy! There's a Mini over there....look over there....it's a (insert colour here) one and it looks just like yours! Look it's overe there!!!!!" =]

Nice going there though Bungle! But it is quite true, there's no other sound like that of an proper Mini engine. By that I mean an 998 or 850 with the clattery tappets, whining diff and feeble farty exhaust :P

My niece is 2 and knows the difference between a split window camper and a bay window lol and of course she knows what a mini is,doesnt know the difference between them though.
She knows the sound of a flat 4 aircooled and my mum said one day when i was driving up the road in my mini that she said "Adam" before she could see the car.
