I'm a 17-year-old-something who was in a similar problem like yours not long ago. My past experiences were that price comparison websites were rubbish and never gave accurate quotes, or at all. Companies that advertise themselves on the telly are alright, but expect similar prices from these companies as they all follow the same insurance guidance system that Norwich Union set up IIRC.

Like other folks have said on this thread, insurance is a killer when you're seventeen (and nigh on impossible if you do any modifications to your vehicle). Getting fully comp insurance my be too costly at such an age, so if you don't mind about future damages, just get third party insurance, and scour as many insurance companies (check them twice, prices might change) as you can by getting on your blower.

Good Luck :)

hi,

today i phoned 31 compaines, including the ones advised by you all, and the cheapest one was Adrian Flux at £1400...

that was the first company i phoned so naturally i phoned others...

the prices were al around the same until i phoned one company, went through the questions an answers and waited for the quote...

it took the guy (matt) on the other end of the phone 4 tries to tell me...

i was expecting it to be expensive because of this...

he finally told me.....£13,000 closer to 14...

at that point we both burst into laughter

and at the end of all this he said to me "so...your not taking out the policy"

to which i really didnt answer just laughed...

anyone had anything like that happen?

£1400! Wow, things have changed! Well you carn't say you didn't do your homework anyway. What are you going to do, take out the AF policy?

The only realistic insurance route is classic insurance.

I'm 17 with no NCB and own a 1986 998 City E
I own the cars V5
The policy is in my name - My mum and dad are on the policy but i own the policy and am declared as the main driver
My cars is pretty modified i have declared everything this includes: Wheels/Arches, Stage 1 kit, Bucket seats, Steering wheel, spotlights, other inyerior bits and £250 of ICE.

This is on a classic policy which means my car had to be 15 years old or older

The only catch is my policy is limited to 4500 miles a year - Which is plenty for me but i could upgrade to 6500 a year for an extra £150 (which aint bad)

The other catch is that i don't think i earn a NCB bonus - However i still get X amount of years claim free driving put on my insurance records which effectively is a NCB as far as insurance is concerned

My insurance came to just over £700 and when i asked about upgrading to a 1275 metro engine - Thet weren't bothered and said my insurance would only go up by £100 which i thought was great

yh i think i am going to take out the AF policy...

and that is a classic car cover...

im limited to 6000 miles a year and i aint aloud to take it abroad..but going abroud in an austin allegro can never be considered a sane idea....

i also got a quote for my jaguar...that came back at 1500 quid....not bad when you consider the car is a 2.8 and worth about 20k...
the onli problem with that is, the jaguar isnt restored yet...still got to do nearly everything to her...

THANKS
EVERYONE
