hi,

just a quick question

is anyone else, around 17 years old, receiving ridiculous quotes.

today i had a look around for the cheapest price for an 1994 1000cc worth about £1500 and the quote came back at a huge £2789.98 a year 3rd pft

surley this can not be justified

so, is anybody else having this problem?

thanks

Anything in your own name at 17 will be killer.

Chat to your rents and blag them to insure it but with you as an additional driver. It'll be around £600.

That's what I did when I was 17. Then the next year when I was 18 it was only £257 with the Post Office.

When I was your age and looking for car insurance I sat down with the yellow pages, maxpower, fastcar, redline etc and phoned round 50-60 different companies.

The quotes varied wildly. I was at the time insuring a 1.3 Nova SR modded with the usuall 'boy racer' stuff from back in the day. Some came back at around £2000 and others around £800. I finaly insured it at £920 TPFT.

Price comparison website are 'OK' but i've always found calling round and actually speaking to someone alot more beneficial.

Your age will always be the problem but believe me you will find good fair price to pay, you just have to look for it

ps. always tell the truth with insurance and try, try, try to get your own policy to start working those NO CLAIMS!!

EDIT: Try Adrian flux, Footman James, MiniWorld Insurance, Lancaster Insurance & Performace Direct :)

Price comparison websites are banana dont bother with them ring the companies yourself. I used go compare recently and they gave me a quote from some company for £560, rang the same company myself and they quoted me £390.

Remember they only provide comparisons for companies that pay them to do so or agree to pay them comission on any completed sale. Most will not include the classic car insurers so have a look in the insurnace thread in FAQ under Misc i beleiev and give some of those companies a ring!

i am doing the insurance as me so i can build up a NCB

but i really begrudge paying that amount of money...

i think its stupid that they want 2 and 3 grand for a car worth half that...

i would understand if the car was new or had a big engine but it isnt

its cheaper to insure me on my mums policie and she drives a bloody Range Rover p38

then again i cant afford to put petrol in that thing...

lol

I was quoted anything up to £3500 to insure my 1275 '94 sprite by some insurers! Cheapest for me ended up being quinn direct...who eventually managed to rob me of about £1500!!

Just had my renewal come through the post. They want £1100 this year! (1 Years no claims) and im now 18. What a joke!!! (This was all fully comp by the way!)

Yeah shop around at some the ones mentioned i just filled in a form making me the worst possible candidate

17 years old
passed test for 4 months
student
etc

Basically the worst for every option and i just got a fully comp quote for £2098 so you can definatly get £1500 with some hard work i would say

Other option is to ask one of your parents to insure it for you with you as a named driver but go to somebody like direct line.

As a named driver you earn your own no claims discount as long as you stay with direct line so when you turn 21 put the policy into your name and they should give you 4 years no claims and a nicer quote i would think

One draw back is that you cant take those no cliams earnt as a named driverr to another company so you would have to stick with direct line for example
