glad youre up and motoring again!
And here's the proof...

Ok, it's more of a test of a tiny key chain cam which just arrived from Hong-Kong

Of course it's not the best quality on earth, but realy good considering the size & price of it

Ok, it's more of a test of a tiny key chain cam which just arrived from Hong-KongI'm quite surprised of it's quality, it's 720x480 pixels and 30fps. eBay is flooded with thos cams, search for 'key chain cam' or 'spy cam'. And they only cost a couple of quid... The youtube video realy doesn't do it justice, I added a bit too much compression on editing
Of course it's not the best quality on earth, but realy good considering the size & price of it

I bought one of those, mine was £10 posted.
It's realy good for the size/money but once youtubes compressed it, its a bit annoying.
Car sounds good I like it.

I wanted to make such a video for some years now - and finaly micro video capturing equipment is cheap and easy to use. Thank you China!

Filmed with the same Mini DVR 808 key chain spy cam and an even cheaper LED key chain light tied to the back of the speedo with cable ties and a bit of alloy. Ultra-low-budget, but seems to work OK.

Start is in a 20MPH zone, move to 30MPH zone and then hit a 60+MPH zone in 2nd. The 2nd acceleration sequence from ~8mph in 1st to ~70-80mph in 4th. Various throttle/gear positions during the run (I think you can hear which).
gtSam0RgPl4
Two things I didn't expect:
- the piston did not fully rise (on the other hand there were still some RPM to go before valve spring flutter!)
- the carb spat back fuel mist on low RPM/high load situations
As you might notice, I run this carb without the oil damper! I think I need a softer spring to:
a) let the piston rise fully (the piston sits flush on full rise on this carb) and
b) steady it under load.
It looks like the spring pushes the piston too much down on 'full stick', hence it 'swings' a bit. This is indeed a problem that's yet to be solved. On the other hand, I don't know how an oil damped SU behaves under such condition. This is yet to be found out.
But that was the purpose of that video, to see how the carb behaves in a real life situation on the road.
All in all I'm very satisfied with the carb's behaviour, I was expecting the piston to judder and jump all over the place on low revs - but it doesn't.
Acceleration is great and throttle response is absulutely brilliant and sudden.
The red stuff in the piston (down view on end of video) is ATF fluid I used to experiemtn with adding weight to the piston.
Oh, and that monkey at the end of the video is of course not me!

Cheers,
Jan

I've wanted to do this video as well!! interesting, it would be interesting to see how a dampened carb would be different!
Yes, I'm planing to do a comparison; same day, same route. A run with oil damper and a run without.

Why do you run without the damper, what performance difference does it offer?

I guess ~50 Minis warming up on the Döttinger Höhe is a noise hard to beat... Only better to see them all on the track with no other cars. Awesome!!
