Etch prime the bare metal, then paint it. Hammerite isn't sold as heat proof paint, but it's always done the job for me and not flaked off or anything.
etch prime it? :S
basicaly all i need to know is after cleaning it and stuff, do i need to use a primer paint or will i be ok to simply paint the hammerite onto it?

Etch prime the bare metal. Prime the bare metal with etch primer. You get it in aerosol in halfrauds.

That isn't etch primer. Etch primer will be in a tin with etch primer written on it. Aerosol is best. Halfrauds do it as I said, but it m ight not be on the website as it's *******.
