well im gonna soak it in hot water and then dry it, so will i still need the etch primer if i do that for the rocker cover,

sorry for being a pain in the backside although i dnt realy know anything about special paints and im very confused

I think you will be best using it on the rocker cover as it is a smooth bare metal surface. You don't need on the engine block tough as you tend to paint over the old paint which is already a rough surface for the paint to grip if you like.

what about ur smooth areas on the other things u painted in ur topic?

would it be a good idea to use some on those areas?

I didn't prime anything at all in my engine bay, just used high temp paint. Other smooth things like the brake and clutch fluid reservoirs i just painted straight with hammerite. However the paint chips off very very easily which causes a chain reaction a the rest easily flakes off.

If i did it again i would key the surface with some fine sandpaper to remove the smooth glossyness of these parts to allow the paint to stick better.
