Hi, The Zcars front Subframe I have got is for tower bolts. My mini is a 1974 that came with the older two bolt setup on each side. I heard from a friend that tightening a tower bolt to this set up can be damaging as they lack reinforcement under the bulkhead?
Anyone have any expirence on this. I can't feel much metal round the hole but more where the long bolts go. I guess I need to compare it to a later mini?
Or what can be done to help reinforce the hole to stop damage, or is it a myth?! Cheers all

Hi Brandon,
I have seen it done in the past using scaffold tube or similar, the problem is that the weld can distort the panel and create and uneven surface for the tower bolt/spacer/bush to sit on (if the Z Cars frame still uses them?, I've not seen one up close). You'll need to make a template to ensure you put the sleeve in the right place. Might be worth getting hold of the original rubber type mounting bushes for both style subframes and using them to create a master template.

If your brave you can buy the dash crossmember and replace it.
Dash Crossmember 1990 on.
Not too cheap either. I think you can just buy the corner pieces tho.

surely you'd need a jig for that?

The big bolt is designed to use rubber bushes so I'd think it'd be possible to make up some load spreading spacers. PU foam injection too.

Mark,
I have the newer type subframe setup and my car is the old style 2 bolt setup, I simply ignored the holes and used the later setup, mines completely solid and i've never had any difficulties....
I wouldnt worry about it too much, its pretty light up front in your setup.
