Some more photos
The reason why we cut part of the wing out was that it was easy to work on the door hingeAttached File  DSC00361.JPG   826.52K   34 downloads

Welding skills come with practice. Get yourself some bits of scrap plate steel and just get practicing, you will be supprised at how quickly you can master it.

As for the Hornet, it is in pretty bad shape but nothing is impossible. It might take a long time to do it but once it's finished you can stand back, admire you work and say to yourself...... I did that  .

Have a bit of faith in yourself!

I presume you mean a TIG Welder, they are no good for welding the thin metal that you get in cars.

You really need a half decent MIG, either with gas or gasless. I have a 130amp gasless MIG and it does the job. You can pick then up pretty cheap if you shop around.

When i first got GIZMO she was`nt that bad. O this is a funny story when i first got it

My dads mates were helping my dad push it down the garden me behind the wheel and we had to go down a step whent down the step and me and the seat whent trough the floor :D

Anyway later on i chucked some fuel in the tank and she fired up first time pretty good seem that she has`nt started since 1996 this was 4 years ago though

Arc welding(stick) is not the best for car panels, MIG is much better and easier. You say the nozzle is U?S. Do you mean the tip or the actual head. Tips and shrouds are easily replaced and cheap to buy. As previously mentioned welding is 80% practice. But when you come to the car, preperation is everything, clean metal no paint no rust. If you can stick weld, MIG will be a doddle. If your mig is past it invest in a new/second hand one, it will be worth it. But a word of warning don't use pub gas as it contains nitrogen and this is bad for the weld, it may look ok but it won't be strong. If you find you are using too many disposable gas bottles go to BOC or Air Products and rent argoshield about £55 a year to rent and £45 to refil Holds about 45 times the amount of gas as the disposable ones.

Good luck and persever its a classic and deserves saving
