Hello all :),
My first guitar, an encore strat replica, has been in my dads shed for ages after i took it apart a while ago to supposedly paint it. Now i actually am going to paint it but make it look better along the way.
the reason i didnt put it back together and just play it is because the bridge is missing..i lost it  but i ordered a tremelo bridge, 6 bass screws, 3 springs, 1 claw and fixing screws and a tremelo arm yesterday on ebay :)
This guitart is going to be cream, its sumburst at the moment but i already have another sunburst guitar which is worth more and i have always fancied a cream guitar. So i thought i would treat myself by going all out on this one :P
anyway, pics of both electrics i have... one is the one i will be painting (left), and on is the other sunburst one that i cant find any history whatsoever for :dontgetit:.
pics dont really show what its like. it looks good here but theres chunks out of it where it fell over and its black on the scratchplate where the pick has rubbed :dontgetit:
Posted Image
anyway, i would get on with it today but the great british weather has set in :(
progress will come sooner or later though

Hehe gotta love Encores lmao. Will Take Hours To sand the Paint And Laquer off, Took me like 3 days non stop. Never did update my project on here ... its finished now lol. I woudnt use a Tremelo Arm if i were you, they pull the strings so tight It makes them sound Flat, Thus out of tune.

Looks like a nice project otherwise.

im gunna use paint and varnish stripper, then sand it  my mum has used the stuff on old furniture before and it works a treat. the tremelo arm came as part of a kit which has all those bits in it ;D

Unless you set it up properly so that it 'floats' correctly.

were you using a nail file?

Best thing to do with an encore strat is to shim up and completely lock the trem down, This will do your tuning stability no end of good ;D Pick up wise (if it were mine and i was doing a budget build) I'd pop a Hotrail in the bridge position, A duncan single on the neck and then leave the Middle pick up as it is.

Alright lol, I got told that there is a limit to how Far you can push it, and if you push it past that it will pull the strings out of tune, especially if its a song like black magic woman which uses alot of tremelo.

I was using one of thoose Proper sander things, cant remember where its from, the actual body is easy, 60grit did it fine for me, but its between the horns which takes hours to strip it all of, maybe i was doing it wrong, but it took a long time i know that.

iv just flatted it down because i dont want big grooves in the wood for using "low grit" so i used wet and dry on a vibrating sander thing. i was going to do more flatting today, but i have to go and visit the grandparents in bognor :teehee: but if i get back early enough ill go up and do some more flatting with p320

What on earth is that other guitar? Looks like a Mustang/Jaguar/Musicmaster or something? Very interesting...

A good way to stabilise tuning is to fit a locking nut to or behind the main nut. Works well if you want to use tremolo.

For parts and things try this place- used them before for bits for my old semi acoustic Columbus Gretsch copy thing..

Looks like a 60s copy kind of thing by the hardware and pickups. Will have a look in one of my guitar books...
