i found some history in my guitar! :P
its an "audition surf special" which was made in the early 60s and sold in woolworths :) but im sure woolworths wasnt as bad in the 60s as it is today ;).
2 single coil chrome cased picups ,Bolt on 21 medium frets. scale very fat & flat bound neck, 6 strip tuners on an oversized fender shaped head
Fitted with crude tremelo and basic " roller bridge " 2 switches on lower horn for picup selection single volume and tone controls.
Original arched profile picups have a full middly sound which breaks up on higher amp settings (these are the same picups as fitted to many other budget japanese guitars of the time esp teisco]
Very responsive to picking dynamics ..hard picking will overdive amp settings that would normally be considerd "clean" .
Played with lots of overdrive it becomes a punk rock monster though it can't cope with really heavy distortion and starts to squeal like a pig.
The neck on the guitar is very flat and quite thick fitted with 21 medium frets.
the guitar is very playable and ideal for slide though not at all suited to the stock pickups which are arched to match approx 9" radius neck.

so basically its a cheap, rubbish budget japanese 60's guitar :w00t: with bad pickups and a custom scratchplate.. but its very playable at least :P i still like it though :P and wil restore it after this one, back to original spec. you cant seem to find these anywhere anymore.

Looked in my "Guitar Guru" book which said... Audition were cheap/mid range Japanese copies made in the 60s/70s so that sounds about right to me. Where did you find that info out?

the back has had one layer and the front has just had its second.. ill give the back another layer in about 15 minutes and then leave it to dry overnight on a hook i should think. then tomorrow because my dad has been sanding down his jeep, theres minute specs of red oxide in the primer so ill have to sand them out and then give it a few more layers, then leave it to dry while im on holiday. once im back im going to sand it all back and give it a colour coat. and but the scratchplate and that >_<
