Hi all.

As some of you know, I'm a home carer so for work, I drive between people's homes all night providing care. First noticed a problem with the car last night when I thought it was struggling to start but seemed okay - probably because it was already warm?
Anywho, went to go out this morning to collect my results and it didn't want to start at all. With a little help from the throttle, I got her going but she conked out again when I was reversing off the drive. Got her going and she was okay again. After I got my results, I went to the local Formula 1 garage and asked them to have a look. They told me that the battery was f****d and so £45 later, it was replaced. All seemed fine until I went to work again. On the way there, I was going at about 15mph in 2nd gear and the car started jolting/jerking along. Only jerked 3 or 4 times then all seemed fine.
Was working with another carer tonight who offered to drive so my car was sitting on a drive all night. Went to go back to her to get home and although she started near enough first time, she went to conk out again but didn't quite get there.
Drove the 15 minutes home but on the A10, the power completely went - foot was on the throttle but nothing was happening. Ended up pulling over to let the cars past behind me as by this time, I was on a roundabout.
Can anyone give me any advice on what the problem might be? As you can imagine, I'm not at all impressed with the garage and they'll soon know all about it tomorrow. I know this isn't a Peugeot forum but I'm starting to run out of money and I'm away on holiday twice in the next fortnight, meaning I really can't afford anymore pointless garage visits. Thought it might be something to do with a fuel pump? Sparks? I dunno... help?

£45 for a battery isn't bad I suppose but a ridiculous diagnosis, your battery might have been low because of all the cranking you had to do to start it. If it turns over, runs, and accelerates, well once you get moving it's not the battery (it does nothing once the engine is running) and unlikely to be the fuel pump. Having a look at the spark plugs won't hurt and also check the fit of any electrical connections on the engine. It could be it doesn't realise the engine is cold because a temperature sensor isn't signaling the ECU.

Having had 2 106's they do suffer with a few electrical things.

does it fire on all 4 cylinders or does it sound like a tractor?

does it make a lot of noise when you put you foot down but not do much (sounds like a boy racer induction noise?)

what engine size is it?

when was it last serviced?

the first things to check on it is the leads and the coil pack as they are the most common things to go. my wife's 106 xsi had a coil pack go wrong which is what im guessing yours is doing. hers also had a module that boosted the signal which isn't on all 106's.

get back to me if you need more help and more info from you would help diagnose it too.

oops missed the new info while typing!!

ok, under the bonnet has it got a box on the end of the head with 4 spark plug leads coming off of it? if it has i would suggest swapping the coil pack (the black box) for a known good unit but try to avoid buying a new one as it could be £50 wasted.

im pretty sure that will be the problem but the garage you went to needs to be refunding youthat battery as that has nothign to do with it. if the battery was goosed it either wouldn't start or the battery light would stay on saying it isn't charging - on a 106 i don't think it woul make it jerk and judder - that is an ignition problem.

when was it last serviced? It's due for one Was gunna do it as soon as I get paid.

when was it last serviced and were the plugs changed - could be one or more breaking down.. same kinda thing with the leads.

Problem is though that I've used the battery so I doubt I'll get a refund... I'm gunna suggest that they sort it at a discounted price. I need my car for the weekend and as said, I'm running out of money

Unsure - last service was with previous owner.

Sounds like fuelling. Is it injection? could be the throttle body playing up.

your going to get a million different answers from people on the internet because they dont have the car infront of them. telephone diagnosis is a hard game.
