the jerking suggests it is a lack of spark as opposed to a lack of fuel. (have experienced this and actually lost 2 cylinders and had sparks out of the exhaust due to the coil pack module / coil pack going south).

I would strongly advise the coil pack bearing in mind the mileage of the car ;D

my point about the battery is that they fitted it after advising you that was the problem - they have mis-sold you it as that is definately not the problem. sounds like a guy taking advantage of a damsel in distress. but as you say they are unlikely to take it back now so i would be strongly insisting they solve the problem at a discounted price or you will be pulling the female card to his boss / head office. it really riles me when girls are taken advantage of.

idle air control valve, map or lambda id say.
your going to get a million different answers from people on the internet because they dont have the car infront of them. telephone diagnosis is a hard game.

Sorry :) Was only looking for a rough idea. Seems you lot are more help than a mechanic ;D

All that means, is wiggle, clean, 'n refit any electrical plugs you can find.

I'd suspect some plank decided the battery was duff because it was run down 'n an easy way to make money off you. With a bit of luck they won't have your old battery so will have to give you the new one for free.

I have had this happen to me when I owned a 106 rallye.
I would put it down to the coil pack, they are notorious for this sort of thing.
All the citroen/peugeot 106/saxo use the same pack so search a scrap yard before throwing good money away.

I used to have a 106 gti which developed a similar problem and mine turned out to be the coil pack breaking down internally, the garage I bought it from couldn't find the problem so I took it to a peugeot dealer and they plugged it in to their diagnostic computer and found it in 2 minutes
good luck the french never were good with electrics lol

this happened to a mate of mines AX, i changed the SPI unit and all was good.
BUT...
also check you have a contant spark at the plugs... plus give them a good clean, and also check all the ignition system and HT leads.
hope you get it fixed!!!

Took the Peugeot back to the garage this morning and spoke to the head mechanic thing and explained the situation all over again, saying that I felt mislead as I'm a girl. He reckons it sounds like a fuelling problem however he said that they wouldn't have changed the battery if they didn't think it was knackerd ( yeah, right.) Anyway, have left it there for him to have another look at but told him not to do anything until he's sure of the problem and knows how much it's going to cost. My only concern is getting parts in and what not because I need my car for tonight and tomorrow morning because I'm going away for the weekend :)
I can't afford this :w00t:

I wish my Mini was on the road, at least that way, I'd have a back up! Anyone got a spare car they want to lend me? Haha.

I'd tend to agree with it being the ignition coil my GTi had the same problem.

Ask him how they can tell a battery is cream crackered if they don't know if it's been fully charged? If it was turning the engine over it was very likely ok. I'm sure you could find someone at a local scrappers to swap the coil pack for beer money. It'd be as cheap as having a mechanic try and diagnose the fault. Ask for the old battery back and get it on a charger, then they can try and prove it.

Well, car's home now.
Phoned them mid-afternoon to ask whether they had found the problem. Apparently not. Went to pick it up and as they went to bring it out of the garage, it wouldn't start! 30 minutes wait later, "there's nothing wrong with it". Yeah, right.
Anywho, I gave up with them and bought it home. Only thing is, it's a lot louder than when it was when it went in there, almost as if there's a hole in the exhaust. Anyway, me and the bf are gunna go over it as soon as we can. In the mean time, I'm using his car.

Not happy.
