I've got a brand new chrome 1000 badge for my Mini. I've had it yonks and I tried to flog but no-one seemed interested so I've decided to fit it. It's the same type which was fitted to the Minor and the early coopers I think. It's got two lugs on the back so I need to drill the boot to fit it. I was thinking of putting it below the boot handle, is this the right place for it? Or does it go to the right of the rear reg plate? I'm a bit iffy about drilling the bootlid, whichwas the reason I was going to sell it but it's a nice classic looking badge. How do I get it central and whats the best way to fit the badge, any advice would be great.

If you dont want to drill the bootlid could you not take the lugs off & use double sided sticky tape ?

As above, but you could use some glue.

The guy who owned my mini before me stuck the badges on with No More Nails.

theres special trim adhesive tape, i cant recall its exact name but i'm sure someone on here knows what its called, i wish the previous owner of my mini had known about it rather than deciding to use two phillips head woodscrews to secure my front badge!!

I was thinking about cutting the lugs off and using that double sided trim adhesive. I thought maybe the badge would be too heavy.

Get some holes drilled, they'll make less mess than a badge you've had to lever off - and the badge will be reusable.

Mine are all siliconed on! It sticks well once dry, is waterproof and doesn't leave a mess when it comes off! Can't go wrong really.

If it has lugs, it's meant to be fitted through holes with special washers behind which grip it, or plastic thingies you can buy off minispares. If you don't want to drill holes, grind the lugs off and use double sided tape. Anyone who uses silicone on a car should be shot. If you've ever tried painting a car which has had silicone on it, you will know what I mean.

Oops! My door seals, windscreen seal, boot seal, petrol cap, headlights, indicators and boot light are all siliconed.. Surely an electrical sander will take it off? It's being resprayed soon as well >_<

Silicone reacts very badly with paint, creates little craters known as "fisheyes". Once it's been used, it's very difficult to get rid of all traces.
