only just saw ;)

for road use obviously still not illigal, iv asked cops before if there illigal when iv been pulled over before and nope, just got sent on my way

on rallys which arent WRC spec, still traverse through roads directed by road books and still have door numbers, you will usualy get sponser decals to put above the door numbers...and to be honest...i think a rally car kinda sticks out on the road a bit more than average car especialy as drivers are usualy suited and booted also :D

Good answers people, I had a sneaking suspision that such a law couldn't be correct.

Just a point of order, if something is illegal then it is covered by statute law (laws made through parliament), if something is unlawful then it is covered by case law (law as a result of precedents set in a Court). If something is banned by an organisation you shouldn't say that its illegal, especially as the next time this topic pops up people will still claim its illegal having forgotten that it has nothing to do with the law.

yes its another of those postings were people say that it is right and are sure its right but cannot provide any proof that its correct, i have posted on a few sites about a link to a legal statement about this and contacted a web lawyer site and a rally web site before comment about this subject being right or wrong. not one reply could give me a link showing it was illegal.

Right its NOT ILLEGAL! YAY!
just rang the road safety partnership at withcall house
spoke to Mr Wayne who enforces traffic law and corrects changes in the law.
OK....
well basically the numbers apply to various organisations say for instance rallycross. now if you are registered with rallycross and have your racing numbers on your car and are seen driving it without it being crossed, you can lose your membership. illegal in that way but with that club not law.

definately not illegal for everyday drivers that do not belong to an organisation and this also applies to track bikes on the road as well they can have any number they wish not illegal either,
you are welcome to ring them and clarify all this. Better to get your information from the organ grinder i say.
The illegal part is not law its illegal with the organisation that you might be a member off.
He also said that you could be pulled over with racing numbers if the PC thought you could be attending an illegal road test with your numbers on as some cars obviuosly are not for road use. But nowadays they can use the PNC to determine that you arent a rally driver and leave you well alone.

good work :D

Always best to find out though. one easy phone call always does the job for me but i guess its knowing who to ring in the first place!
This forum is full of people professing to know the facts based on hearsay evidence i prefer to get my facts from what is stated in the law and from professional who know the law.
safer all round! stops us enthusiasts rushing out to rip bits off the car as well....lol

and a very good point ;)

well done, a lesson learnt all round ;)

100 anorak points to you ;)

Apparently this is totally true! It is somewhere in traffic law im told,
that is why i have my numbers like below, this is legal as i do not have a white background and they are not therefore official racing numbers , just decals.

maybe you should have checked before posting. :D

Thank you, im getting quite a tally of these anorak points !

and when you get to 1000 points you can trade them in for a tartan thermos flask or a note book and pen ;) or you can keep going to 2000 points and claim your honorary green and blue striped bobble hat :)

However I was thinking that I didnt want to chance getting pulled by the law.

Well how on earth do rally cars 'legally' drive to the next rally stage? I've never seen a WRC stage on TV where they finish the course, take their numbers off then stick them on when they get to the next stage. :) They don't stick a cross thorugh them either (I dont think, hmmmm...)

True British Health and Safety/ Government law this one :D

because there competing on a stage rally covered by many ruels governing everything they do, there given road books with direct routes to next stage...when they retire from the stage they HAVE to remove all traces they have been competing, i HAD to when i retired otherwise i could have got a black mark put against my licence effecting who accepts me to rally in what ever event i go for next

ever noticed what numbers WRC cars have too? id like to see you find a moder WRC car that uses door numbers, look on the rear passenger window at the bring iluminious numbers

Oh yeah, I've not watched WRC for a while, must have been recent they changed from using door numbers? Memory of a sieve :) You know what I mean though, the cars that drive between the Stages, like this one: (Burns' old car)
