i have started restoring (ish) my 1986 austin mini mayfair, it has a 998cc engine and all the car is standard apart from a few speakers and a cd player, i thought i would open a topic and put on some piks and update as i make progress as i go allong

these piks are from the advert which i bought the car from as i have not had time to take any and i have only just found my camera lol

i have had the car about a month and so far i have made a parcel shelf speaker board which hold two 6x9 and a underseat board that house two 6 and 1/2 inch speakers, this is all linked up to a cd player up front. i have also sanded down the rocker cover and re painted it in black. i have also replaced the yellow hosepipe with a proper breather pipe and the black pipe that goes from the dizzy over the rocker cover to the carb can't remember what it is called but i have put two new connecting ends on it so now it is connected, i have also put in a new choke cable as the old one had its knob broken off so i upgraded from a trist and lock to a pull and push mechanism which is better. tonight i have taken the clamp off that holds the manifold and exhaust together as it was blowwing, i have now put some fire putty on the clamp and clamped it back up and runs like a drem apart from the leaking radiatior so that is the next job tomorrow. please post your comments thanks Danny

I'd take the insulation tape off personally, because if the weather ever changes and warms up, then the sweat off your hands makes this a PITA. Give it a bit of a clean with turps or white spirit to remove the gum from the tape. Nice little project you have there. Keep it up.

Now then, Nice Mini, should be good when its finished!

Im just asking about your 6x9's in the parcel shelf. Did you have to cut the metal away for them to fit? I was just gonna have some the same size as the hole then 6x9's under the seat but I may as well have 2 sets of 6x9's if you can get them on the parcel shelf. So how did you go about doin it? thanks!
