You got me thinking and rechecking everything..... I went from an 1985 mayfair to a 1992 cooper..............the difference is when the heater knob is in on the mayfair heat is on and when its in on the cooper heat is off!!!!! Please dont tell anyone!!!! LOL
Seriously though thanks as system did need a total flush and now only needs a new rad cap to stop it boiling and sorted the Aux fan.
