1275gt

cant get it to run smooth and with out back firing
road race cam, make and model unown

ok ill go over what has been tryed and tested to date.

oil pressure tested and fine

compression tested and good

timing set and advance waits checked all spot on

firing config 1342 fine

carb and manifold taken off carb cleaned and gasket replaced, all fine and no leeks

tryed almost everything but cant stop the back firing and runs lumpy, the only think i can think of is the cam and valve set up, but if any one has any other things i can check please feel free to post it up, the more help the better

so how dose a back fire come about? you have petrol in the exhaust that is firing? so is the cam timing correct? if you have lined up the dots the chances are it might not be correct? remove the rocker cover to see what the valve are doing take out the plugs and the dizzy cap line up to fire on number 1 and see what the rotor arms doing are the points open look to see if the exhaust is still open. maybe the problem will show its self.

have you check the firing order then?

backfiring also often caused by under fuelling by the way...

when we took the carb off for cleaning there was puddles of fual sitting at the top of the inlets on the head and the carb has been striped, cleaned and rebuilt so i think fual is fine, the firing order is fine and has always been fine i just had a moment of crazyness when i 1st posted and i put it down rong
