but it will make it worth while having a proper iso loom rather than a spliced in loom... simply easier should you replace the stereo again!

The new head unit will come with a loom attached, now is the perfect time to ensure that it has sufficient wires.
there are 2 power wires,1 goes through the ignition and is used to switch the unit on and off and 1 comes directly from the battery and is live all the time.
Ensure that these are connected up properly and have a good size wire to it. Personally I have always gone way oversized with my wires as they are not much more expensive and they ensure a good supply of current. make sure you use grommets as shorted wires are very good at starting fires.

There are sufficient head units out there that you should be able to get exactly what you want. there are up to 50 Watt from just the head unit.
If you are thinking about upgrading then I recomend that you look for a head unit with 5 RCA out as this lets you plug in and control amps easily.
Other features such as Phone mute or Ipod input DVD player are all up to you, All I recomend is that you go for a name brand and not some Indian copy of a Chineese radio.
Alot of the time you get what you pay for but you often pay extra for the top brande because of their name and not your brand. Shop arround and get as much advice as you can.
Bear in mind that if you upgrade the stereo and go for a couple of amps etc then you are going to start drawing more than your alternator/ Battery can supply.
Hope this helps
Steve

you need a perm 12v supply (to keep the radio station presets) and a switched live to turn it on.
