The only ones I've managed to track down are a bit of a trek from us. RobDave kindly came over with a diag tool a couple of months ago, which flagged an issue with the temp - found there was no thermostat! However, I haven't had any diag tools run on it since

I'm going to swap the fuel filter tomorrow, and check all the vacuum pipes (although I've already swapped these).
Is there any way of flushing through the fuel pipes when I have the fuel filter off? If so, what's the best thing to use?
In regards to the vacuum pipes - I understand it's extremely important that they don't have splits in etc due to pressure, but how can the pressure be kept when the fuel trap has a hole in the bottom? Little confused by that!
Anything else I should check whilst I'm working on Monty? Ie, what's the best way to test the solenoid / starter motor (are they different things...?). I have a Haynes manual to help me.

Could be the temp sensor iirc its in the inlet manifold

Would that cause the issue with starting the engine?

faulty sensors can cause the ecu to be reciveing the wrong values, and therfore seting the mixture of fuel and air up wrong, so if it was reading high tempreture, your ecu thinking your car is warm, will work as if your not useing a choke to start, therfore being a pain in the ass. this is only a guess though as im not highly skilled in the injection side of mini's but i think its logical reasoning

Sounds like a good explanation to me! Will search for a Mini friendly garage to run a diag!
Cheers all!
