Hey all,

Last night some delightful person decided to siphon all (and I mean it all) the fuel out my Mini whilst it was parked right in front of my house.

Id just filled up to the brim as well which meant they got roughly £25 quid out of him.

Thankfully they haven't done any damage, but they did take my fuel cap as well which was nice of them. ^_^

What's the world coming to.... its crazy...

I'm sorry to hear about it but unfortunately it's becoming more and more common with the current fuel prices and we're easy targets!

I'd love to know where you can get fuel that cheaply! If it really is completely empty I think you'll be surprised by how much it takes to fill it.

Sadly this is quite common with Minis. Fitting a flip up cover around the fuel filler makes it less easy to do. The cap would probably have been useless now anyway because they would have wrecked it to remove it.

For you to have filled up to the limit and then have it siphoned seems like you were targeted. They must have seen you fill up or its just a crazy coincedence

There was an Audi and a BMW parked right next to him as well, probably holding far more fuel than me.. but as you say, were easy targets.

Are some fuel caps better than others? It was just the normal rover one, key in and twist - they probably just used a screwdriver to pull it off...

Wonder if theyl be back tonight, as I now it hasn't got a cap at all!

There is no more secure cap sadly but there is a flip up cover that screws to the filler neck behind the cap and completely surrounds it making access harder. They can't get to the edges of the cap any more to wrench it off and would only be able to remove it if they completely destroyed the lock which pretty much means drilling it. Using a screwdriver rarely fully destroys the lock and the cap would usually need levering off after the lock was half opened.

Oh, that was nice of them :mrcool: is there no CCTV in your area?

As infiniti says, perhaps somebody saw you fill up... though minis seem to be easy targets to break into anyway ^_^

Ah cool, thats good to know,

But, if its harder to get off they might damage the surrounding area in the process which I defo don't want, Id rather they got the fuel instead of damaging my Mini.

Not going to be filling up too much for a while me thinks

How *rubbish* is that.

Hope that they get caught.

one consolation, she was so easy to get into that they didnt cut the fuel pipes etc? that woulda been *rubbish*.

If it ran it should be ok... still its horrible. Its why i replaced my pipes with metal ones... even then they would most prob just cut through the pipes. I recon petrol thefts on minis will increase because its easy to get the caps off ^_^
