A write off indeed, in the eyes of The Man.

But you people dont realise your rights.

You can get the car fixed and pay for it, then claim the repair cost back, in full, from the 3rd party's insurers. The first thing to do is contact the 3rd party's insurers directly. Then make sure you TELL THEM THAT IT IS WHAT YOU ARE DOING and make a note of the time / who you spoke to etc on that call.

I did EXACTLY that last year when I was driving my girlfriends mini (under my policy), guy spun out of control and smashed the front up. New wings, front panel, lights + respray blah etc cost me £760.

If I'd left it to the insurers, ie go get an estimate etc they'd not have thought twice about writing the car off instantly. Its an F reg mayfair.

I was £760 out of pocket for two months but hey, she kept her car and has a nice new front end.

you might get away with some thing as its a 'low milage car' im sure you can do some thing along them lines
