Broke down

This afternoon I drove my dad and sister to car dealership to buy our new family car. Bought it done. On the way back, went over a drain and lost power, electrics everything. This happend on the national speed limit strech between sittingbourne and tenyham. To make matters worse, it came to rest on a blind sharp corner!

I put the warning triangle out and put on my fleurescent yellow jacket to warn the speeding motorists to slow down. Tried to start it and push start it once the traffic had cleared but to no avail.

By this time my sister was getting cold so my dad walked her down the road to the petrol station to keep warm, while I stood up the road warning traffic. It was dark and there are no street lights in that stretch of road. So I stood my ground by being lit up by car headlights thankfully slowing them down as the headed towards a dark obstuction, which happend to be my mini.

After an hours wait an Ontime truck pulled up behind with its lights flashing making us feel safer. He checked the battery, which had 6 volts in it. So charged that on the spot. He fiddled in the engine bay and stated that my ignition module had dried up and needs replacing. He lubricated it and put it back in. Also the ignition coil and wiring was worn and needs replacing as well as new connections needed. Also the fan belt is on its way out.

He got it running again and we headed home for our tea as did he. He being on a 24 hour shift!

Therefore new bits to buy:

Battery
Ignition Module and connections
Fan belt

Do you mean your coil had dried up... your ignition moduel(which went on mine at the camp site in germany) is a small microchip.

I would probably sugest testing to see if your alternator is charging or not too after fitting everything. good luck

Yeah it had dried up and was tested by the roadside mechanic.

He put silicon on it and it still didnt work.

In the end he got it running by charging the battery up.

It hasn't been off the road... :P The next day after the break down I went and bought a new battery and sorted it :).

A friend of my dads came round this morning to fix the starter motor on my dads car, turned out to be a completely flat battery... the same problem with mine.

He also checked the mini over and said the ignition was fine. A bit worn but should last for a while longer.

Ignition is all cleaned up, was covered in crud.

Had a puncture christmas morning, thats now fixed and replaced.

And its misfiring - booked in the garage as it needs an mot test.

Oh and my father and I have worked out why the stereo was playing up because the wiring connections were mixed up. Now just have to sort the wiring and figure out which wire does what then the stereo will be back in.

Also it won't start...

Got it running  by drying the plugs and connections and wd40 spraying. After warming it up it still wanted to stall but with some more driving done its ok now. Still misfiring but it runs!
