The main thing is i have the engine number.... its...12h/496f/12908

Probably a daft question, but is it definitely 496 as opposed to E96?

umm good question i just glanced at it was in a bit of a rush....what would it be if it was E96????:)

According to Guessworks E96 would be:
Source Vehicle : Metro
Engine type & CC : A+ 1275 cc Transverse mounted
Fueling :
Engine features :
95 Ron Unleaded petrol
Alternative compression ratio
Pre-engaged starter
Wide Ratio Rod Change gearbox with Pot Joints
Breakerless (electronic) ignition
Gearbox features :
Std. Ratio Rod Change gearbox with Pot Joints
3.4:1 Final Drive

The block is 100% not A+ Asphalt is correct.
I have a list and the engine number is also not in it!
there is a 12H 996 that is MG metro, not this engine.
The 12H 398 which is 11 stud A block and looks the same as the one in the photo that would be a MK3 S late
is the engine number reverse stamp?

I also have an engine in my mini which is 12h- 496f WITHA 23D4 DIZZY - does anyone know what it came from?
