Ta for all the good advice, you lot don't know how hard that was to ask!!

By the way Wilson I must confess that i did had a nipple snap off in my gun!! just my luck it was the one
on the back of the diff housing, never mind all fixed and greased now.

I also have the cartridge type (a lot easier when the greadse runs out) Nino, and it has a long flexible delivery hose (most useful for the hard to reach nipples!!)

Replace the one on the back of the diff housing with an angled one - will make future greasing much easier :P

Where abouts is the grease nipple on the back of the diff housing and what does it grease? The diff is lubricated with oil from the engine isnt it? :s

It is to grease the shift mechanism parts on the earlier remote type boxes.

Like GraemeC says, mine is a 1967 cooper so has a remote change type box, the grease loobs the gear selection shaft which runs in the casing
