Issues With Neighbours

I am in need of some advise, im sure that people on here have had similar isues!!!
Basically i am restoring my Riley Elf and a neigbour (over the road and down a bit) has complained about me grinding!
Dont get me wrong i appriciate that it may be annoying for them but i try to be considerate, dont make noise late in the evening or for prolonged periods.
What id like to find out is, where do i stand in regards to the law, is there noise limits and times that should be adhired to so i dont get in trouble with enviromental health / police ect.
I have spoken to my net door neigbour on the side that attaches to my garage and he hasnt got any issues (good chap!) lol
I am just a little concerned as she seems to be asking everyone i the road if they have a problem with it and i cant work out why!!!
Its really annoying because i want to get it all finished this summer and i am already puttin off doing work on it because of the noise!!!
Argggh
Any info would be greatly appriciated!
thanks

I deal with things like this everyday. I would just say be considerate, and dont do 'noisey' work late at night or early in the mornings.
He might report it to the council but in past experiences they probably wont do much!
It depends what he is like as a person too, because you can get some right ermm, **annoying** neighbours that moan and winge about the slightest noise!
All you can do is be considerate, you have every right to work on your cars on your property

A quick call to your local environmental health dept should clear it up.
I've had neighours complain before, nothing ever came of it as I was within the guide lines set by my local council.
I think Bungle is pretty up on this as well.

Police dont deal with noise complains but if its a neighbourhood dispute you might get a PCSO

You can be as considerate as you want say between 11am and 4pm? If people want to moan they'll moan, not your fault as your not doing anything wrong.
I'd say shaft em? Who cares, you aint gonna win with them as they have already decided you are satan!
Just keep making noise and finish the car and dont expect any xmas cards this year from them?
Dont try to be nice with awkward people, just be more awkward.

PCSO - police community support officer
Council normally get involved and will give the neighbour diary sheets, to document when they are 'noisey' etc. But it depends from situation to situation.
How often does she moan at you? U could always do the same everytime she 'confronts'you about it.

this is the thing, she is a two faced coward she hasnt confronted me, because i only found out because my nxt door neigbour told me she had gone up the road knocking peoples doors asking people if they have a problem with me, and i was out washing the car earier and she wouldnt even look at me, it seems a bit sinster to me and i think she is trying to shaft me!
yeah i think im going to start my own diary of when i am grining ect, jus so i have got my own record incase she starts making things up!

You have every right to work on your car and make a bit of noise while doing so.
Sounds like you are being considerate and sensible about when you make noise.
You have nothing to worry about - or feel bad about.
It's likely that one or other of your neighbours has a lawn mower (badly looked after two stroke) that
makes more noise (and for longer) then you Mini or the work you're doing on it.

Some people are just like that, they will moan, you aint gonna win, you could be nice to her but again you aint gonna win, she dont want no noise and thats fair enough but dont change your plans because of that? If builders were working next door she'll still moan?
If you get a chance pop over and have a quiet word? Explain thats it not gonna be every night and all year round, its just a short term project with occasional noise during the day?
More than likely she'll tell you she just doesn't like noise, fair enough, but dont give in to sob stories? Its a street with other neighbours, your gonna get all kinds of noise!!
If she still persists (which she will) then just tell her you might grind her front door down? Should give you some breathing space to finish the elf!

it happens all over the place and as you've said you are being considerate so i wouldn't worry about it. Needs be then just have a word with the local council and see what they say

yeah true, jus seems like she is out to get me though.
I might email the council to see there oppinions about it, so if she does challange me about it further i can show her the email and tell her to "go forth and multiply!"
