Hello chaps,

I'm in the process of buying new parts for a mild tune on my 1275, Maniflow LCB (to replace the sportex one) is on the list of course and I'm planning to go with a whole Maniflow system.

The question to those of you using them is this; Is a single box system a bit draining for a daily drive? The car is massively sound proofed (in Mini terms at least) and I have a fairly sizable ICE install just in case. I prefer the option of 'sporty' sound of subtle but how sporty are we talking?

If anyone has a video comparison etc, that would be excellent.

For reference I'm currently using an RC40 twin box.

Personally, I like cars to be as quiet as possible, but the important thing is to be able to pass the MOT. The latest regulations seem to suggest that anything significantly louder than the unmodified car should fail. If you are on good terms with your MOT tester, I suggest asking what he thinks.

I fitted a new exhaust with 2 boxes and a CAT. Just hoping the new manifold I've ordered solves my blowing exhaust problem!

Much the same, Tiger. I like my exhaust note on the polite side of volume while pottering about but to have a pleasing and not too subtle rasp to it when you give the beans.

Hoping someone has a Maniflow fitted that can comment on the volume levels, I could go single box and add a rcm or mid box later if needs be but would rather not pay out twice of couse.

Nobody got a Maniflow full system at all?
Maybe I'll be the first!

I'd get two boxes. Seems a shame to shell out on sound proofing then undo it by fitting a loud exhaust! It'll still have a nice sporty tone to it.

That's the line I'm hoping for, sedate and quiet when driving about town but with a pleasing volume once you open it up.
With the amount of damping and proofing in my car it will have to have a fair note when 'on song' to be heard, I can't tell there's an RC40 on it currently when hard on the gas.

I've got a maniflow single box stainless system, it's 95 db @ 4000 rpm on a 1293 (MSA Noise testing)

How is it at 'in town' levels, top gear lower rpm? Also how is it within the car, does it get tiring to listen to after a while?

Don't suppose you have a video? :gimme:

I have a full Maniflow twin box system on my MPi. It's quite quiet but it still sounds like a Mini. Apparently the neighbours can still hear me when I finish work late

Twin box Maniflow, new, with 1.75" bore pipes gave 96 DB at 5000 rpm at 1/2 meter and at 45 degrees from exit pipe. RC40 twin box, new, gave 93 Db at same measurement criteria, both with RACMSA approved noise meters.

This is my '93 Sprite, Maniflow LCB, Maniflow twin box centre exit, K&N Cone filter, HIF 44 carb, stereo playing Matt Munro on a sunny day.

Thanks for the replies, chaps.

Surf, that's just the kind of thing I was looking for. Added bonus your car is almost same as mine so a good representation too.
Sounds pretty meaty despite being a 2 box system, think I'll go that way. If I want more I'll just buy a straight pipe ;D

It's one of those things that some will be able to cope with and others not. I used to have a single box Maniflow cat back system on my MPI which was pretty noisy, kinda droned a bit on motorways. I got rid of that because it rusted heavily in less than 6 months and the rear bracket sheared. I'm pretty sure I just got a bad one, but Maniflow accused me of beating it with a hammer and didn't want to cover it under their 3 year warranty. So after a bit of arguing I told them where to go and bought a Stainless Play Mini center DTM.
I know there are loads of big exhaust haters but it's my mini!!
That is a pretty loud exhaust, and the mini is my daily drive but I only rarely take it on motorway journeys so the noise doesn't really bother me. The neighbours on the other hand would probably say otherwise, but hey, it passed it's MOT last month!!

No sorry, the exhaust gets drowned out by the straight cut gears around town!, but it gets driven 2 to 3 hours to the hil climbs without a problem, guess it all depends on how much noise you think is too much, don't forget on the db scale 93 will be much quieter than 95 as it uses a multiplication factor
