A question in another thread arose about whether it's best to fit rubber or solid mounts to the front subframe.

I commented that I intend to have solid toe board mounts and poly tear drop mounts. This was brought to my attention by a couple of people that this isn't the comman thing to do.

I'm sure though that I read some where that it is possible to have the setup I intend to use.

Is this the case?

Thanks

matt

Poly teardrop mountings, the thick ones, are so bad that neither minispares sells them...

All solid mounts or all rubber mounts.

No compromises in between.

I had solid top and teardrop with just the standard rear ones and it worked well.

This has been covered plenty of times on the forum buddy, the safest is to go all solid or all standard;

And plenty more to list...

Hope this helps

I've run solid towers and teardrops with rubber floors for years with no problems on a couple of cars, but recently solidified the floors too and wish I'd done it years ago.
The handling is soooo much better and there is little increase in NVH.

Poly mounts or bushes are crap imho. Unlike rubber, poly just doesn't have the resilience to continuous compression and fails quickly.

Solid or poly or rubber, dont mix them, thats when problems arise.

Right then just read all the info and it looks like I'll be pulling the subby out again to take the poly bushes out and ordering solid ones.

How thick would you suggest the sheet for the spreader plates should be?

1.2mm should be good enough but if not some 2 mm will be better.

I have got some solid mounts to sell, all apart from the teardrop ones. PM if you are interested buddy, just few of the bits leftover from selling my project.

Ah ok, they're probably better than the round ones which become like this after a few k miles:

But i'd say to not mix different mountings

No they've been fitted to the later subbie, its just they cant handle the side movement between frame and bulk and neither the compression between them, hence the shape impressed in the mounting
