    Starting My Mini Up

I'm in the process of importing a 1999 MPI from The Netherlands to Canada.

Two issues I need help with before it passes inspection and gets on the road; there must be something reflective on sides of car and it needs a center mounted third brake light.

Is anyone aware of an aftermarket version of the side indicators on the front wings which is reflective? My lazy option is just to paste reflective stickers on the car sides.

How about a nice center mount brake light which would go inside the car either on the roof liner or mounted on the rear parcel shelf?

thanks for your help

There was an original Rover third brake light - might be able to find one of those?

I've been thinking about one of those, does it not reflect on the inside of the rear window when you brake?

Not had this mini on the road with this brake light! Did have a mini before with this type of light and I can't remember it being a problem.

If thats the case it could be what I'm looking for. If you have the time after youve got it wired up, I'd be interested to see a pic of the inside of the rear window at night with it working.

I have this same LED thrid brake light, but it is a shorter length I I mounted it top edge of window, not parcel shelf.

Wired it into the brake lights...seems to work fine. But I was just out after dark for the first time since installing and discovered the LED no longer comes on with brakes if the parking or headlight lights are switched on. Normal brake lights still work with parking/head lights. Can't quite understand that.

Any tips on what I should be checking? Is it possibly a polarity issue that changes when other lamps are on?

Try switching the wires around.

I think you will find the two wires from your LED brake light joined to the two wires on the back of the light cluster going into the brake light bulb holder. This is wrong, one wire is for the brakes and one is for the parking light. Remove the one from the parking light and join it to the earth /body.

That does sound how I likely wired it... will check.

It was incorrectly wired in....as described, the LED ground line was spliced to the rear running light. Now it is on a body panel ground bolt and all is good.
