Thought I would post a topic on my latest project. I plan to put a 1293 turbo engine into my mini thirty. I'll post pics & clips of the car running in due course. I've always wanted a turbo engine, and started looking into used engines, but didn't make financial sense to invest so much money into a iffy engine, that's tired, and worn, at best.

The spec list.

Block
Engine bored and CNC honed to 0.020” making it a 1293cc fitted omega 10cc cast race pistons, ARP rod bolts fitted, new cam bearings, phase 2 billet X drilled oil fed hi performance turbo camshaft, crank ground 10/10 fitted with heavy duty main and big end bearings, std thrust bearings, centre main strap fitted with hi spec cat bolts, hi capacity steel backed oil pump. conrods soda blasted block face flashed 0.020”new high capacity water pump, new core plugs, all oil gallery pugs removed & cleaned and fitted with hex plugs, duplex rotor slide adjustable cam drive, fitted with IWIS minimum stretch chain, cam timed in @108 deg. Supplied with Cam chain cover, new oil seal, plus crank damper, crankshaft fully dynamically balanced to 14000 rpm

I plan to run a gt1752 turbo, minispares clubman straight cut gearset, top spec turbo head, 2wd cosworth intercooler, megasquirt running a couple of sensors EDIS, PLAYMINI 2''.

The block was built by steve benross, and he will also be doing my cylinder head.

Let the games begin. :)

Sounds like a great build! Will the megasquirt just be running the ignition or will it be fuel injected as well?
Only running ignition. Might go 7 port in the distant future.

Sounds like a plan, as I understand it fuel injecting the a series is a real pain anyway because of the siamese ports!

Yep, It's a right pain in the backside timing the injection, and not a huge benefit over a good hif44 on a 5 port. IMO.

Yeah I would definitely agree with that!

Setting up a 5 port on injection is fine with someone in the know, 3 hour dyno session on mine had it running wonders. Don't underestimate 5 port imo, yeah 7 port is great, but worth 3k more?

Waste of time going injection on a 5 port. 7 port all the way. I will be going that way hopefully in a couple of years. definitely worth the extra money.

Agreed. Only as bad as the mapper.

Waste of time? Ok I know nothing, not like I've had experience with it or anything.

Ahh well.

I can't see any benefit of fitting injection to a 5 port turbo to be honest. A well set-up HIF44 will work just as good. The injection set-up will also need a lot of time/money thrown at it. I know Paul on turbo minis has been messing around with injecting a 5 port for years. 7 port is a huge leap forward with lots more potential.

7 port will be better, but please don't knock 5 port injection as it works in a lot of applications and can finely tune engines to run well, especially those of us who have to go through stringent emission regs.
Not all of us can afford the almost £5k for 7 port heads, inlet/ECU systems.

carb works fine, but injecting does make setup a lot easier, you can do a  log of the fueling and tweek the map from a pc rather than guessing where to file bits off a needle.
