Hello,

Firstly, I must apologise for invading your forum as I own a 1960 Austin Healey Frogeye rather than a Mini, but despite my best efforts I haven't got any response from the Midget and Sprite Club regarding my query.

My question relates to A series Spares who I know you have had some not always happy dealings with and an electronic distributor I bought from them in 2017. I need a replacement side entry cap but the standard 25D cap appears not to fit it and I've also tried the 45D cap too, to no avail. I contacted Imperial Nuts and Bolts as they still appear to be selling the same units, at least the description looks to be the same and sent them a picture, they went away to check but never bothered coming back, ditto The Distributor Doctor.

Has anyone fitted this unit to their Mini? If so, could you point me in the direction as to where you might find a replacement cap that will actually fit. I didn't really want to junk a relatively expensive and working unit for the sake of a cap and I am getting to the point of mild despair.

Thank you for your help

I think the Frogeye used a DM2 or 23D distributor .. but I'd have to check that .. you still running the 948cc engine?

I was only looking at a small and odd selection of side entry caps in the past week of so, I just can't right now recall where I saw them.

It's not this one is it ?

Can you perhaps post up a photo of your distributor and if you have a cap, that too ?

I use the 45D side entry cap Moke Spider linked to. I just remove the screws and file grooves into the cap for the spring clips to locate into.
As above, a photo would help.

Thanks for the speedy replies, the engine is the 948cc  Here are a couple of photos of the troublesome items.

I've tried the 45D and it doesn't appear to fit, the base is flat and it sits rather badly on the lip of the A Series Spares distributor, also the spring clips are very loose. Whether there are different clips that could be fitted I am not really sure. I've seen a 45D cap made by 123 Distributors which looks like it might fit, the internal radius looks about right but it could get to be rather expensive as I am fast gaining a large collection of non-fiiting distributor caps.

That certainly looks like a 45D dizzy, but that's certainly not a 45D cap!

The cap in that picture looks like a 25d side entry cap.
