Due to recent issues with the classified system, the TMF team have been working on a new way of buying and selling on the forum.

We've taken on board the comments made in various different threads over the past few months and come up with what we think is the best solution.

The new(now old!!) classified sytem is being done away totally and replaced with one that has been designed and built in house(by Deathrow). We've done all we can to make the new area as safe and easy to use as we can and hopefully you'll all agree as well.

The new system is based loosely on the system we had previously, and will be intergrated into the main board of the forum. New posts in the classified area will appear as any other new post would.

There have been some changes, some to prevent scammers and some to try and tidy up the area.

- There will be a minimum post count of 150 posts before a new user can post a thread in the for sale area, the only way around this is if that user is a TMF+ user.

....Why?

First off, this should deter scammers, not stop them just hopefully encourage them to go elsewhere. Also we feel that if new users wish to make use of our facilities then they should either make a contribution to the forum as a poster or just a financial donation for our services. Also in the event of there being a problem we will have their pay-pal details on file for future use.

- No user editing of post, once its typed its stays there

...Why?

So sellers can't change the description, buyers can't back out and its all there for all to see forever!!

- After 30 days the adds get archieved

...Why?

This keeps the classified area fresh and stops people bumping up old and useless ads. These ads are not lost though as they will be moved into a Archive area and can still be searched for by our users. The ads will be locked and any contact will have to be via PM with the seller.

-Only Mini/Automotive related items

This is a mini/car based forum, if you want to sell your grannys teeth then use eBay!

We want to make this area fun and safe for everyone, with this in mind please note..

- Spam, and by this I mean useless posts such as

"nice car mate, wish I had the money"
"bump for my mate"

-"Dibs"

No Dibs on anything, I don't know where this came from but its caused no end of arguments!!

-Constant timewasting, agreeing to buy stuff and then backing out at the last minute

- General antagonistic, annoying comments, The TMF teams decison on what this means is FINAL!!

Every advert MUST have a price and location, simply saying offers is not acceptable, ads that don't comply WILL BE DELETED without warning.

We want this to be fun area and an asset to the forum, users who constantly break the guidlines above will find themselves banned from this area. Banter is fine, being annoying isn't.

I'll be looking after this area and am happy to answer any questions

Shifty(on behalf of the TMF team)

Sounds good to me!

Especially the 150+ postcount part. Should save a few people getting ripped off - Me included!

Still got a couple of little details to sort out but I'd like to think that we'll be closing down the current system in the next 2 weeks.

How would newer users know when they have reached the 150 posts to allow them to post in the classifieds?

Could that be the same for buyers? I’ve already been left out of pocket by one over the last few weeks.

We did discuss this, and if there is a problem here its something we could look into doing.

We didn't want to make it too difficult for newbies to be parted from their cash!!

Some people will join up just to buy something, hopefully once they've bought it they'll stick around a bit as well.

Or not buy something, say it hasn’t arrived, question which address it’s been sent to and then clam their money back.

The only answer here would be to send via recorded delivery and use pay-pal.

We will also be drawing up some safe trading guidelines as well.

You could have a personal rule that you don't sell to people who haven't got 150 posts? You aren't obliged to sell your item to anyone and I wouldn't stop you from doing this to safeguard yourself.

It's a bit different as a seller would get money, more attractive to scamming scumbags. A dodgy buyer would be after bits of Mini, more of a niche appeal. Also, the seller retains control of the goods, and can impose their on controls on the sale if needs be.

How would newer users know when they have reached the 150 posts to allow them to post in the classifieds?

Users who are not permitted to access the classifieds will find themselves in a user group called "Noobies", you will be moved automatically to the "Members" user group when you hit 150 posts, the "Members" user group has classifieds access. You can tell which group you are in next to any of your posts, below your avatar.
