[attachment=36461:3.jpg]

i then got out the trusty nitomors :w00t:

and slopped it all over them.

and also remembered how much it burns when you get it on your skin! :w00t:

and with the help of my little friend i got rid of most of the paint.

tomorrow, ill be:

buying the paint i need plus copious amounts of wet and dry.

reapplying more nitromors to remove all paint

post up pics of wheel thats ready for painting.

going over wheels with wire wheel on dremel to remove the crud from the alloy its self.

with great dificulty :w00t:

im only gonna mask up the rim. ill paint everything else. when its dry ill get some very fine wet and dry on a block and very carefully rub off the paint on each of the 'spokes'

tis gonna take forever and ever

i'd probably do it the latter, to be honest :w00t: it may take longer, but you'd get a nice crisp edge :w00t:

right update, :P

bought:

plenty of wet and dry

sanding sponges (blocks and mats)

masking tape

paint and primer

is zinc primer ok to use? i hope it is because thats what ive got!

this is one of the wheels part way through polishing.

i started with wire wheel on dremel to remove surface crud, then used coarse wet and dry, followed by increasingly fine wet and dry. when all of the scratch marks were gone i used fine wire wool just to make the surface shine.

heres some comparison pics of how the wheels started, and how the first wheel has turned out.

looking good :P , defo laquer the paint, matt black on wheels gets very shabby very quickly

zinc primer is very good for use on alloys just do lots of thin coats not thick coats or it doensnt tend to adhere as well as other primers do, also as you havent got a smooth surface use Zinc, then primner filler and then the paint

BUT make sure that non of the primer edges show on the dges of the spokes like it would if you primered then painted and then blocked it down if you get what i mean :(

good luck

wayne

My dad did my Cosmics with thinned down Hammerite Smooth Black and a brush, dried brilliant and saved all the masking!

Regarding centre caps, get hold of some standard Minilite ones you like, run a bead of strong super glue/ Araldite Epoxy along the edge and fit it in the middle of the wheel, I did that 2 years ago with mine and they still havent fell off and look ace!

to be honest I wouldnt have bothered masking them up. I didnt bother with my 100+ ones. I painted them with hammerite because trying to spray into all those awkward little bits is a nightmare. Then at the end I just used a razor to scrape off the paint that had got onto the polished faces and gaves them another polish. Looked fine.
