ok, my clutch decided to make a bid for freedom last night. thought it had just worn excessively quick and ordered a new one today after limping it to my mechanics at lunchtime. new turbo kit cost about 90 quid after postage on thursday. got a phone cal earlier to say to cancel the clutch as that wsnt the problem. the problem ws the 6 bolts and washers that had made a bid for freedom from holding the clutch to the flywheel. turns out the spring washers from the kit hadnt done their job properly and allowed the bolts to undo under load and gave me barely any clutch pedal and a hell of a groaning noise. its got spring washers now instead of half moon washers so should hold ok from now on. really hope it doesnt happen again but i have the new clutch on standby just incase!

put spring washers onto the clutch when building it up otherwise they will fail!

mmmmm sounds very fimilar to me......

Changed the clutch on my project black one, on tuesday last week. Found all the bolts loose and big chunks of metal missing as they have been ripping apart as the engine was turning.

not his fault dan, he built it using the parts supplied. the clutch failed as it isnt a competition clutch and cant handle the power i am putting through it. he did say i should uprate it to a better one. i didnt think it would fail this quickly. it is due to how quickly it spins up now that made it release. as i said, spring washers should make it hold in place now. everything else thats being held with spring washers is holding securely.

But you get the same washers and bolts no matter which clutch you use...?

Whilst I don't doubt anyones workmanship, it would be petty hard to prove it was mechanical failure, rather than installation error.

I don't doubt that you did. Maybe I should put it a different way, it wil be very difficult to prove it was mechanical failure. But hopefully if they are a customer service orientated company they'll offer some sort of a good will gesture at least.

i am using after market washers now. ones that wont let the bolts come adrift. the standard washers are just a bit pony in my opinion. something that spins that fast and thatquickly needs something that will cope, obviously the standard items cant.
