Never surprised when the press get it all mixed up - mind you the French are updating them - maybe its lost in translation?? Anyway, just heard he is critical - hope he pulls through OK, never my favourite F1 driver, but a helluva racer

Not a very Christmassy question but does anyone know the dish size in cc of a pre-A+ 998 piston? Just doing some quick compression ratio approximations while watching not going out with the fam :D

How much paint would I require to paint a mini engine? Would 250ml really do it as this ebay ad states: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUSTIN-MORRIS-MINI-COOPER-RILEY-ELF-MOWOG-BRITISH-RACING-GREEN-ENGINE-PAINT-/380792443579?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item58a8ff92bb

Aye itll be properly degreased with gunk! No half arsed job :D Got to do it with the engine in the car though :/

far better with engine out so you can degrease and get into all the nooks and crannies . proper job.

It's doable in the car, assuming you're stripping manifolds and ancillaries off to get access. Thing is, you won't be able to wire wheel off the old paint as effectively to make the new coat last, but it should look good for a little while!

Yep - all that money that you save on postage! ;) I bought all my panels & general resto stuff from there. I moved away before my project got to the blingy stuff (although I still have the workshop nearby....) so it wasn't as handy for the final stages of the project.

If you remove the valves from a head, is it essential that they are re-ground etc when re-installed or can they just be cleaned then re-installed?

Decoke, check and relap them in is the best way forward

Got rid of the majority of the carbon and the exhaust valves are rather pitted which means the seats are probably knackered too - may as well install unleaded ones haha
Sep 29 2013 06:47 PM -

Yes unleaded is the way to go if the head is later than about 1988 it will have hard valve seat inserts already and may be possible to reclaimed the valves by having them refaced

Does it have a vernier adjustment on the side? 72 is most likely a 45DM which does not.
