MOT Results - 2 cv boots needed, headlights realligning, hand brake tightening and thats it! Managed to pass with the exhaust (no cat but car is a 93....) and i had already had welding and subframe sorted before hand. Beyond happy with that.

Buy some disposable gloves for when you do the CV boots. You will quickly understand why.

Safe to say i am not doing any of the work myself. The garage is getting its hands dirty haha. Also noticed the front subframs mounts have snapped - getting that fixed also.

Wise choice but when I built my own for my Vauxhall conversion I had little choice but to do them myself and I wish I had invested in some gloves. CV grease is horrible.

subframe changed, boot welded, MOT today.... i know it will fail, it's just a question of by how much! Mini life for ya.

I bet it can't beat my Escort I used to have. I managed 18 failures 21 advisories at one test although I suspect some of them were made up by the garage that did the test.

Footman James actually worked out really cheap to insure the mini with....

Last time I insured a mini I did it on a multicar policy. It was cheaper to insure two cars together than either the mini or my astra by itself. Something you should possibly look into as you own another car. How's the turbo engine build going?

Such a shame about MH17. Thoughts are with all the families of the 298 passengers.

Does anyone know where I can get black exterior trim stuff from? (Guttering, light surrounds, bumpers, basically everything chrome I want black!) :)

-
dood
you can get black guttering anywhere, like minispares or eBay, as most mini's had black guttering as standard rather than chrome. My mini has mostly black trim, like door handles, wipers, mirrors etc, so you will be able to get those anywhere too, perhaps even cheaper here on the mini forum? :)
Not sure where you'd find black headlight rings though, if you want them to be shiny like chrome you can actually get black chrome these days, I've seen it done with motorbike exhausts...

Headlamp rings can be keyed up and an etch primer applied, Then you can spray them any colour you want. I did it on the chrome grille on my old 190E
The rear light frames are plastic but can still be flatted back and a plastic primer applied and then painted in the same way. Basically key up-prime-paint just etch prime for metal and plastic prime for plastic. Simples

Ahhhh...getting an old one off is a bit trickier as the bolts going into the heal board can (and do) snap off without a gentle touch....or a blow torch!!!! Hope your not heavy handed.

Soak all the bolts in penetrating oil and use an impact wrench if you can get hold of one. Removing a sub frame isn't hard. Its refitting the new one if the bolts have sheared.

After 60+ phone calls to Ryanair tonight, two cancelled flights and two changes, I am officially on my way tomorrow. An extra night, better flight times and no £180 charge... Sounds good until I see my phone bill (£1.03 per min..... X about 3 hours.....) hhmmm

-
IainStallard
That's over £180 on its own!

Question - how much paint will I need to paint a mini (inside and out), dove grey if that makes a difference! No work or labour added on, just paint amount roughly (and cost?) :)

-
rally1380
I've painted 2 mini's in cellulose and took 5L each with having about 1/2L left for touch ups. That was full car, inside, engine bay etc.

minimagic1380
